Ridgewood NJ, The Schedler Ad Hoc Committee offered a compromise plan to install one multi-use sports field, a walking trail, bathrooms and 44 parking spaces on the property. It has been said the sports field will be used primarily for “kickball”.
But several readers wanted to know what kickball was , and voiced suprise kids still play it.
Kickball is a popular playground game and is typically played among young, school-age children. The lack of both specialized equipment and highly skill-based positions (like pitcher) makes the game an accessible introduction to other sports.

The sports field would be 75 by 50 yards, the minimum size considered functional for soccer and lacrosse, according to the committee, which cited national standards .
North Jersey media quoted Michael Winograd, a member of the Schedler committee”It’s good enough for flag football and younger kids to go cross-field,” , “It basically serves everybody.”
