Lawmaker proposes lowering New Jersey’s drinking age to 18
Republican Assemblyman Michael Patrick Carroll recently introduced the measure, saying it’s wrong that an 18-year-old can serve in the military but not be allowed to buy alcohol. The bill seems unlikely to pass, since lowering the drinking age would cost the state millions of dollars in federal highway funds

Poor argument that did not work in the past and will not work in the future.
When a man can’t go to a bar with his son for a beer until three years into his college career or his 4-year hitch in the military, said son will have already worked out his own adult relationship with alcohol by the time he can buy his dad a beer. Not good. Never has been.
I became an American later in life and one of the first things that amazed me about coming here, was the 21 years drinking age. It just seemed so stupid when just about everywhere else in the world, it was 18, the age of adulthood. However, soon after thinking this, I had my one of the second things that amazed me about coming here, was the immaturity of its young men, in comparison to the rest of the world. I think it’s actually got worse, where we have these perpetual children well into their 30s. Keep the drinking age where it its.
All military bases according to the department of defense the age is 21 including over seas.
It’s about time. Hopefully common sense will prevail. the 21 law is ridiculous.
EITHER LOWER the drinking age to the age of majority (aka 18) or RAISE the age of majority to 21.
.
At 18 you are deemed responsible for yourself – you can vote (choose the people responsible to run the country), enter into contracts, get married, enter the Military (fire guns and potentially kill people), drive, work, move to another state or country, etc, etc, etc but you are deemed NOT responsible enough to drink.
.
This is (and always has been) a joke.
.
Sync the age of drinking (like all of the other “adult” responsibilities, rights and privileges) to the age of majority – one way or another.
.
will Bernie promise them free drink on the government when they turn 18.
When I grew up the drinking age was 18. Then the nanny government decided to change it to 21. Interestingly we never had a drug problem back then.
When I grew up you had to be 21 to drink or vote. It was fine.
The problem was the amount of drunk teens being killed in car accidents, when the limit was raised deaths went down. If the young people want this then they should vote, which sad to say many do not.
