Village Leave Pickup Offers Mixed Results
Early snows remind many residents of promises made by the mayor on a newly reinvigorated leave pickup the results seems mixes at best .
While everyone realizes and early snow plays havoc with the pick up schedule some are growing weary of the excuses ; “Change you can believe in , If you like the plan you can keep it and vote for team Aronsohn.”
While some residents saw improvement : “I thought this was the best I’ve seen the streets in years. Hats off to the men and women of Public Works.”
Others spoke of the same old , same old ; “On Friday before. The storm I contacted the Village Managers Office and indicated that Colonial Road has piles of leaves which creates a hazard. The impending storm would make it worse and that the Village should remove the piles ASAP. I was told that the Street Department would inform me of the pick-up schedule. I was referred to the street department. I spoke with an identified man who indicated that they did not have a pick up schedule and didn’t know when the piles would be removed. Maybe it is time for the Mayor to stop the marquee projects and focus on the basic of local government like picking up leaves and removing snow piles. We cut the budget and the essential services too. Get back to the basics.”
The village has been on a long slow ride downhill for a good many years the lack of leaf clean up is just one of many poor decisions by the powers that be.
the prior town managers have continued to reduce the working staff in every department to the point where we don’t have enough bodies to complete the basic work. It’s time to look at re-staffing some of these cut positions so we can return to the good old days of “service” in our town…
I haven’t seen those guys on my street in over a month, and I’m on a pretty main street. Will someone from the town (I know you’re reading this) answer: will the leaf collection continue once the show melts?
E mail the Mayor.
To E mail the mayor is a waste of time, try the village manager.
There is no Village Manager.
Actually it would be a better business decision to hire a contractor to supplement the village dpw to pick up the leaves , just as is done with snow plowing.
That way, no pensions, no benefits, no headaches.
We do not need them the rest of the year.
#6 there is an acting village manager.
Get with the times people. We have to learn how to do more with less. Municipalities find themselves in the place they’re in after years of over paying for labor and over staffing. Figure it out because the halcyon days of municipal employment are over.
#9 thank you for the sermon. The leaves still need to be picked up now not in the next budget year. How about some action!
Your right # 10. #9 sounds like one of the there Amigo’s trying to justify 0% tax increase and low emergency surplus for their own political ambitions

It has nothing to do with budget cuts or learning to doing more with less. I’ve lived here 20 years and it’s never been any different. It’s poor planning.
Hire a contractor just as we do with snowplowing. they do a great job and if they don’t you simply do not ‘renew’. A lot easier than firing a do-nothing employee protected by unions.
I sense a work slowdown here. The Village now says that they can’t pick up the garbage when it snows?! There was an inch or two of snow tops on the ground yesterday and my garbage was not picked up. Something smells funny here and it’s not the trash….
Your “non-essential” municipal employees are not coming back. Just get the job done please.
Time to bag and barrel leaves and keeping to the once a week yard waste schedule. Other towns are doing this and it’s working for them, why not us?
I received the email from the sanitation dept too. They said that there would be no rear yard pick- up when snow or ice is “forecast”. Maybe they could notify residents in the morning on days that they forecast snow or ice. In the afternoon it was too late for me to do anything.
The residents deserve a clear forecast from the sanitation department.
# 16 I’m guessing you live in the lawns where there are no trees. I have 15 oaks on my property which would require 100+ bags per week. Ain’t happening homey.
Garbage will stink if its not picked up 2x per week.
Try something creative, like cutting the school budget and increasing class sizes so we can lay off some teachers.
So Paul, where’s the action plan?
Paul is still working on TRANSPARENCY.
to all the leaves will be picked up when the snow melts. just remember you all we just laid off all the part time help which comes out to be 10 workers. and we had a 5 full time workers left the job.the village needs to hire more then fire and police.
#21 even if the town doesn’t hire new workers they still have to hire a contractor to do the job. It appears the town just doesn’t want to spend the money! ( can you say political agenda)?
it still is a lot of money.
can you say man power. thats what this town needs to take care of all the problems that we have.
thanks the man.
