Leonia NJ, Bergen County Prosecutor Mark Musella announced that on July 31, 2023, NILES DIAKOS of Leonia, NJ was sentenced to an aggregate term of 35 years in New Jersey State Prison (“NJSP”) with no parole after pleading guilty to the 2022 murder of Alicia Arnone in addition to two Passaic County cases.
On March 26, 2022, Leonia police arrived at Alicia Arnone’s apartment, where Ms. Arnone was found deceased with multiple stab wounds. During an investigation conducted by the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office Major Crimes Unit and the Leonia Police Department, it was determined that Ms. Arnone’s boyfriend, NILES DIAKOS, was responsible for her murder.
On April 10, 2023, DIAKOS pled guilty to first-degree murder, N.J.S.A. 2C:11-3a(1). As part of a global resolution, DIAKOS also pled guilty to two Passaic County indictments for second-degree certain persons not to possess a weapon, N.J.S.A. 2C:39-7b(1); and fourth-degree stalking, N.J.S.A. 2C:12-10b. Pursuant to the plea agreement, DIAKOS was sentenced to 30 years in NJSP for the murder of Alicia Arnone, which was ordered to run consecutively to 5 years in NJSP for the Passaic County certain persons charge and concurrently to 18 months in NJSP for the stalking charge.
The State was represented by Assistant Prosecutors Stephen Bollenbach and Christine Caputo-Howland. They were assisted by Sergeant Anthony Primiano of the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office Major Crimes Unit.
Prosecutor Musella thanks the prosecution team for their zealous advocacy for the victim and her family and for helping combat crimes of violence in Bergen County. Prosecutor Musella also commends the detectives of the Major Crimes Unit as well as members of the Leonia Police Department and the Bergen County Sheriff’s Office for their skill and professionalism in investigating this matter and bringing it to a successful conclusion.
