Lodi NJ, Bergen County Prosecutor Mark Musella announced the arrest of 52-year-old JAVIER E. TUFINO of Lodi, NJ on weapons-related offenses. These charges are the result of an investigation conducted by the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office, under the direction of Chief Matthew Finck, and the Lodi Police Department, under the direction of Chief Donald Scorzetti.
On Wednesday, September 24, 2025, the Lodi Police Department was investigating damage reported to a vehicle that was parked on Burns Avenue, which appeared to be from gunfire. The Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office Major Crimes Unit was notified, responded to the scene, and initiated a joint investigation with the Lodi Police Department. The investigation revealed that on Saturday, September 20, 2025, at approximately 8:20 p.m., JAVIER E. TUFINO brandished a handgun on the street and fired four rounds at the unoccupied vehicle parked there.
On Wednesday, September 24, 2025, a court-authorized search warrant was conducted by detectives from the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office Major Crimes Unit and the Lodi Police Department at the residence of JAVIER E. TUFINO. Detectives recovered multiple firearms and ammunition.
As a result of the investigation, on Wednesday, September 24, 2025, JAVIER E. TUFINO was charged with second-degree possession of a firearm, N.J.S.A. 2C:39-5a(1); second-degree certain persons not to possess a firearm, N.J.S.A. 2C:7b(1); and second-degree possession of a weapon for unlawful purpose, N.J.S.A. 2C:39-4a(1). TUFINO was arrested by detectives and remanded to the Bergen County Jail pending a detention hearing in Bergen County Superior Court in Hackensack, NJ.
Prosecutor Musella states that the charges are merely accusations, and that the defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt.
