Lyndhurst Car Fire Leads to Arson Arrest

Lyndhurst NJ, Bergen County Prosecutor Mark Musella announced the arrest of CHRISTOPHER BAULCH (DOB: 7/24/1978; married; unemployed) of 48 Minns Avenue, Wayne, NJ on arson-related charges. The arrest is the result of an investigation conducted by the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office under the direction of Chief Jason Love and the Lyndhurst Police Department under the direction of Chief Richard Jarvis.

At approximately 9:37p.m. on Thursday, May 12, 2022, the Lyndhurst Police Department received a report of a vehicle fire at the intersection of Valley Brook Avenue and Cleveland Avenue, Lyndhurst, NJ. Upon their arrival, officers observed a Ford Escape engulfed in flames. The fire was subsequently extinguished by the Lyndhurst Fire Department. An investigation conducted by the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office Major Crimes Unit and the Lyndhurst Police Department revealed that CHRISTOPHER BAULCH had intentionally set the fire.

On May 17, 2022, CHRISTOPHER BAULCH was arrested and charged with second-degree aggravated arson, N.J.S.A. 2C:17-1a(2); second-degree aggravated arson, N.J.S.A. 2C:17-1a(1); and second-degree causing or risking widespread injury or damage, N.J.S.A. 2C:17-2a(1). BAULCH was remanded to the Bergen County Jail pending his first appearance in Central Judicial Processing Court in Hackensack, NJ.

Prosecutor Musella states that the charges are merely accusations and that the defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt, and he would like to thank the Lyndhurst Police Department and the Bergen County Sheriff’s Office for their assistance in this investigation.
