Mahwah NJ, In November 2020 New Jersey voters voted ‘yes’ on a ballot referendum which would legalize the recreational sale and use of cannabis for people over 21. Many voters seem to embrace the ideal , but see issues with recreational sale and use of cannabis or weed in reality , particularly the reality of their own town, township , village ,borough or city. Mahwah is one such township.
The Township Planning Board voted 5-3 that an ordinance proposing to allow a cannabis retail store on Route 17 was inconsistent with the townships master plan.
As we had reported in January ,the overarching concern was that the proposed location of the store at 231 Route 17 North is within 400 feet of two nursery schools and a house of worship. Also, the proposed location at the Ramapo Avenue exit is within 400 feet of the Mahwah High School campus.
The planning board recommendation was that cannabis retailers be located no closer than 1,000 feet to such facilities.
The Mahwah Township council is scheduled to review that recommendation and vote on whether to approve the ordinance and allow the cannabis shop on March 8th. If council approves the ordinance, the applicant would still have to go back to the Planning Board for final approval .
Just what we need.
Oh yes we do thank you.
What is it with regular normal life that so many people feel the need for a mind altering escape? Yes, I played around with the stuff in my early 20s, so I know the effects. I just don’t get why grown assed adults need these regular escapes from sober reality.
A: People are weak.

But the liquor store on Ridge Road on the same side of the street just down from the middle school and high school is okay?
