Bergenfield NJ, authorities reported that a man tragically lost his life after being struck by a CSX freight train in Bergenfield early Tuesday morning.
According to CSX spokeswoman Sheriee Bowman, the incident occurred when the train collided with the man while he was on the tracks near Church Street at 2:48 a.m. The company did not provide any details about the victim.
Upon arrival, the Bergenfield Police Department found the victim had suffered fatal injuries at the scene. No individuals aboard the train were harmed during the collision, Bowman confirmed.
Following the crash, train crossings at Columbia Avenue, West Central Avenue, and West Church Street were temporarily closed. However, all three crossings reopened shortly before 6 a.m., as per the Bergenfield Police Facebook page.
Bergenfield Police had previously reported on March 17th that due to CSX train malfunction, all of the railroad crossings north of Clinton Avenue (Main Street, Church Street, Central Avenue, Columbia Avenue) were closed.
As of Tuesday afternoon, the crash remained under investigation by authorities.
