Ridgewood NJ, A routine Tuesday afternoon in Ridgewood, New Jersey, was shattered by a frantic 911 call reporting a possible stabbing on the popular Bergen County Bike Path. The alarming report triggered a massive, multi-agency emergency response, only for police to discover the weapon involved was not a knife, but a hockey stick.

The incident, which occurred late Tuesday afternoon (October 28th), saw a rapid deployment of uniformed officers from the Bergen County Sheriff’s Office, Glen Rock Police Department , and Ridgewood Police. An ambulance and paramedic team were also dispatched and staged near the reported assault location as a precaution.

Quick Work by Police Locates Juveniles

The situation quickly de-escalated when additional information from witnesses revealed the alleged assault involved a hockey stick rather than a knife.

Responding police officers acted swiftly, locating several juveniles who were involved in the altercation. The incident resulted in injury to one of the minors:

  • The Victim: A 12-year-old resident of Fair Lawn sustained non-life-threatening injuries to his back.
  • Medical Refusal: Despite the injuries, the victim’s legal guardian and parent refused further medical attention beyond the initial evaluation and treatment provided by local EMTs at the scene.

Investigation Ongoing by Bergen County Sheriff’s Office

While the initial panic subsided, the incident remains under active review. The Bergen County Sheriff’s Office has taken the lead on the investigation to determine the full circumstances of the assault and the responsibility of the juveniles involved.
