Princeton NJ, an autopsy performed on a Princeton student whose body was discovered on campus has ruled her death was a suicide. Misrach Ewunetie’s body was discovered behind the university’s tennis courts on Oct. 20 after being missing for a few days. Misrach Ewunetie was 20 years old.
At the time is was reported that “no obvious signs of injury and her death does not appear suspicious or criminal in nature.”
The Middlesex Regional Medical Examiner’s Office performed the autopsy, who ruled it a suicide, with the cause of death “Bupropion, Escitalopram and Hydroxyzine toxicity.”
Ewunetie’s disappearance launched an extensive search by air and watercraft. University officials said in a statement, “Misrach’s death is an unthinkable tragedy. Our hearts go out to her family, her friends and the many others who knew and loved her.”

Why is this not considered an accidental death due to drug interactions?? Why is this female student of color’s death a suicide? I read another report of a college student who died with pharmaceuticals in his system and his death was ruled accidental overdose – note, this was a white male student in another part of the country. People are prescribed so many drugs by a variety of physicians that this young woman may simply have been taking her prescriptions as directed, with the doctors not communicating with one another to avoid bad drug interactions.
If the coroner is going to make this kind of call with all that it means for her bereaved family, wouldn’t a more detailed explanation of the reasoning for deeming this a suicide be in order?
