Glen Rock, NJ – A high-speed pursuit tore through the streets of Glen Rock and Paramus early Thursday morning, culminating in the arrest of a suspect near the Garden State Parkway.
The incident began just before 1:00 a.m. on Thursday, after a Bergen County Sheriff’s officer attempted to stop a vehicle on Route 4. The driver fled, initiating the chase.
The Chase Begins in Glen Rock
Glen Rock Officer T.J. Graziani heard the call and soon spotted the suspect’s car at the stoplight intersection of Lincoln Avenue and Harristown Road. As Officer Graziani turned his patrol car around, the vehicle—a car with Pennsylvania license plates—immediately took off at a high rate of speed toward Route 208.
Officer Graziani initiated his own pursuit, activating lights and sirens. During the chase, the officer quickly noticed a crucial detail: the Pennsylvania plates did not match the vehicle, escalating the severity of the offense. The high rate of speed and dangerous driving continued as the suspect drove toward Route 4.
Paramus Police Intervene
The high-stakes pursuit finally concluded thanks to the intervention of Paramus Police. They successfully managed to stop the suspect’s vehicle on the Garden State Parkway southbound, near the Saddle Brook Toll Plaza.
Roni Xhaferi, 25, of Staten Island, New York, was taken into custody by Bergen County Sheriff’s officers following the stop.
Charges Pile Up
The suspect now faces a barrage of serious motor vehicle and criminal offenses. Roni Xhaferi was formally charged with eluding police.
Additionally, he was issued numerous summonses for a long list of violations that include:
- Driving without a license
- Reckless driving
- Careless driving
- Unsafe lane change
- Fictitious license plates
- Unsafe operation of a motor vehicle
- Failure to signal turn
This incident highlights the seamless cooperation between the Glen Rock Police Department, the Bergen County Sheriff’s Office, and the Paramus Police Department in maintaining safety on the roads of Bergen County.
