More than 40,000 licensed amateur radio operators from across the U.S. and beyond take part annually in this critical training event, which combines emergency response simulation, public service, and technical skill-building. Montvale’s OEM team was on the airwaves making real-time contact with operators in other U.S. states and European countries, testing the speed and resilience of emergency communication systems.

🌐 Why Field Day Matters

ARRL Field Day is more than a hobby—it’s a vital annual exercise to ensure that in the event of a disaster, when traditional communication systems might fail, amateur radio can step in to keep people connected and coordinated.

Montvale’s involvement helps bolster our emergency response capabilities and reflects our ongoing commitment to community safety, preparedness, and innovation.

“Field Day demonstrates how Montvale remains proactive in staying prepared for emergencies,” said Mayor Mike Ghassali. “This event is a great way to practice communication readiness and showcase the importance of amateur radio to our residents and emergency partners.”

📡 What’s Involved

During Field Day, Montvale OEM operators:

  • Simulate emergency scenarios to test real-world response capabilities

  • Operate under challenging conditions using battery and generator-powered radio equipment

  • Engage with the public to raise awareness about amateur radio’s life-saving potential

  • Connect with global operators, exchanging call signs and preparedness tips

  1. Mayor Mike likes to have his picture taken…but not as bad as Jimmy Tedesco.
