LITTLE FERRY, NJ — July 2, 2025 — A 25-year-old Moonachie man, identified as Chandler Dippel, has died after sustaining critical injuries in a motorcycle crash on Bergen Turnpike late Tuesday night, according to Little Ferry Police Chief James Walters.

The collision occurred shortly after 11:30 p.m. when Dippel was traveling southbound on his motorcycle. A 40-year-old North Bergen man driving a 2013 Toyota wagon was headed north when he attempted to make a left turn into the driveway of Early Bird Laundromat, crossing a double yellow line and striking Dippel’s motorcycle.

Victim Succumbed to Injuries at Hackensack Medical Center

Dippel was transported to Hackensack University Medical Center in critical condition, where he fought for his life for several days before passing away from his injuries.

The driver of the Toyota has been charged with making an improper left turn, Chief Walters said. Although crossing a double yellow line to enter a driveway can be legal in certain situations, it is only permitted when the maneuver is made safely and without impeding oncoming traffic.

The driver also claimed that Dippel was speeding, though the crash remains under investigation by Little Ferry authorities.

Outpouring of Grief from Local Community

Dippel was a valued employee at Bergen Brookside Auto Body and Towing, and news of the crash has deeply affected those who knew him.

“Our hearts are heavy as we share news that has shaken our entire Bergen Brookside family,” the company wrote on Facebook on July 4. “One of our own — a valued driver, colleague, and friend — was critically injured in a devastating motorcycle accident while heading home from work.”

On July 6, the Garden State Towing Association also took to social media to confirm Dippel’s passing:

“Please keep the Dippel family, friends of Chandler, the Salemme family, and everyone at Bergen Brookside in your prayers during this difficult time.”

As of July 7, funeral arrangements or memorial service details had not yet been made public.

Motorcycle Safety and Road Awareness

This tragic incident is another painful reminder of the risks motorcyclists face and the importance of road awareness, particularly at night and at intersections. Both riders and drivers are urged to exercise extreme caution, follow traffic laws, and remain vigilant to avoid such devastating collisions.
