Ridgewood NJ, New Jersey’s local film and television industry has expanded with the addition of several new municipalities and counties designated as Film Ready Communities. The New Jersey Motion Picture and Television Commission, under the New Jersey Economic Development Authority, revealed that 14 municipalities and four counties have successfully completed the Film Ready New Jersey Program.
Among the newly designated Film Ready Communities are Berkeley Heights, Cranford, Fair Lawn, Jersey City, Manville, Newark, Plainfield, Pompton Lakes, Rahway, Ridgefield Park, Ringwood, Roseland, West Orange, and Westwood, along with Bergen, Passaic, Somerset, and Union counties.
According to NJEDA CEO Tim Sullivan, the Film Ready New Jersey Program equips municipalities and counties with the necessary tools to welcome top-tier productions, ultimately fostering economic growth. The program’s multistep training and certification process prepares communities to accommodate movie and television producers while effectively marketing themselves as film destinations.
Through a five-step certification and marketing program, municipalities learn about motion picture and television production basics and establish standards for attracting filmmaking. The “Film Ready” designation enables certified communities to showcase themselves as filming destinations and facilitates connections between film and television professionals and knowledgeable liaisons statewide.
The next Film Ready Workshop, scheduled for April 23 at the Morris Museum, will offer participants training and guidance from industry professionals, local officials, and NJMPTVC representatives. Topics will include the economic impact of hosting on-location filming, permitting processes, opportunities for small businesses, and infrastructure expansion.
NJMPTC Executive Director Steven Gorelick emphasized the importance of partnerships with municipal and county governments in fostering the success of New Jersey’s film industry. Through initiatives like the Film Ready New Jersey Program, the state aims to encourage communities to readily embrace filmmakers and reap the benefits of hosting production crews.
