Ridgewood NJ, the unprecedented felony prosecution of former President Donald Trump in New York City is bad for America, according to a majority of voters who agree that the case is “banana republic sort of stuff.”

The latest Rasmussen Reports national telephone and online survey finds that 55% of Likely U.S. voters believe the felony charges against Trump are bad for America. Thirty-nine percent (39%) believe that prosecuting the former president is good for the country. (To see survey question wording, click here.)

The term “banana republic” is a political and economic term used to describe a small, often tropical country that is politically unstable, economically dependent on a single commodity (often bananas), and dominated by foreign corporations and interests.

The term originated in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, when many Central American countries, such as Guatemala and Honduras, were essentially controlled by foreign corporations, particularly those involved in the banana trade. These corporations had significant influence over the countries’ politics, often backing military coups or other actions that furthered their interests.

Today, the term “banana republic” is still used to describe countries that are politically unstable and economically dependent on a single commodity or industry, particularly when foreign corporations and interests are heavily involved in that industry.

  1. No one should be above the law including Trump or any other public official for that matter . Laws are meant for everyone in this country but the elite tend to forget that and somehow think the law doesn’t apply to them.

  2. Unfortunately and sadly that’s the direction we’re taking.

  3. A true and useless statement since no laws were broken by Trump and this is politically motivated prosecution.

While you are cheering for Trumps conviction on politically motivated “non-charges” since you don’t like him, remember that it is only a matter of time until they come after you.
ALL politically motivated prosecutions MUST be opposed.
