Hackensack Man Arrested Following Bergen County Special Victims Unit Investigation

Hackensack NJ, A joint investigation by local and county authorities has resulted in the arrest of a 44-year-old Hackensack resident on multiple severe counts of sexual assault and child endangerment.
Bergen County Prosecutor Mark Musella announced the arrest of Jose E. Polanco, following a coordinated effort between the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office Special Victims Unit and the Hackensack Police Department.
Allegations of Multiple Incidents in Hackensack
The investigation began on Sunday, May 24, 2026, when the Hackensack Police Department contacted county detectives regarding the alleged sexual assault of a juvenile within the city.
The subsequent probe, spearheaded by Chief Jeff Angermeyer of the Prosecutor’s Office and Chief Michael Antista of the Hackensack Police Department, revealed that the suspect had allegedly assaulted the juvenile on more than one occasion.
Arrest and Formal Court Charges
Following the initial findings, authorities located and apprehended Polanco in Hackensack on Thursday, June 18, 2026.
Polanco is facing significant legal exposure under New Jersey state law and has been formally charged with:

Six counts of second-degree sexual assault (under N.J.S.A. 2C:14-2C(4))

One count of third-degree endangering the welfare of a child (under N.J.S.A. 2C:24-4a(1))
Following his arrest, Polanco was remanded to the Bergen County Jail. He has since made his initial appearance in Bergen County Superior Court in Hackensack and was subsequently released pending further scheduled court actions.
