Essential Coyote Safety Guidelines for Residents
Wildlife officials and local police advise residents to take immediate precautions to ensure the safety of families and pets:
-
Keep Pets Leashed: Always keep dogs on a leash and closely supervise all pets while they are outdoors, even in fenced yards.
-
Maintain a Safe Distance: Do not attempt to approach, follow, corner, or interact with a coyote under any circumstances.
-
Do Not Feed Wildlife: Ensure outdoor trash cans are securely sealed and avoid leaving pet food outside, as these act as major attractants.
-
Practice “Hazing” If Approached: If a coyote gets too close, make yourself look big, wave your arms, and make loud noises (shouting, clapping, or using a whistle) to scare it away.
How to Report Coyote Activity
If you spot a coyote or notice unusual wildlife behavior in the area, do not hesitate to contact the Glen Rock Police Department immediately to help track their movements and keep the neighborhood safe.
