New Jersey officials are considering a plan to raise salaries for school superintendents, in a move local leaders hope will keep the school chiefs from fleeing their jobs for more lucrative work.
Acting Education Commissioner Kimberley Harrington proposed changes Wednesday that would raise the maximum salary from $175,000 to $191,584 and allow for 2 percent raises in subsequent years.
Just what we need; even higher school taxes.
Years ago, Chris Christie unilaterally declared that a certain group of contracted employees shouldn’t make more money than him and superintendent’s pay was cut. Trenton should stay out of local school matters. If Dr. Fishbein deserves an increase, it should be incumbent on our local Board of Ed to determine that. Too many qualified individuals go to neighboring states to get market pay or take high-paying principal positions that don’t require all the liability of a superintendent.
Oh come on give me a break, our school superintendent’s are probably among the highest paid in the nation for a student population of equal size.. Going forward, millenials hare having fewer children and this should ease the burden on school systems.
