>Village Council members last night approved conceptual plans for the installation of approximately 50 new street lights on Ridgewood Avenue, between Maple Avenue and Broad Street. It is anticipated that installation will begin by summer’s end; the project could take until winter to complete.
New, uniform lamp posts (green colored) and globes (with opaque glass) will replace the variety of posts & globes already in place. Total project costs have been estimated at $100K, with work to be performed by an as yet to be named private contractor in conjunction with PSE&G crews. Councilwoman Kim Ringler-Shagin has requested that all removed lamp posts be saved for sentimental purposes (even though they contain lead paint).
>I hope they don’t make the Village look like the landing strip in Ramsey center.
You could land a small plane or play football in the street at night with those type of lights.
>God forbid there is enough light to prevent people from being hit by a car!
>At an estimated cost of $100k! The tings that this crazy town wants to throw OUR money at just makes me wild. Why? Don’t we have better places to use our money. How about keeping our taxes down? Oh, that’s right, I forgot that they intend to “reassess” us. That should give them a substantial income. Call me “Less than enamored”. And yes, I grew up in this town. Now I finally understand why my mom was willing to sell me the house for a bargain.
>Stop wasting my hard earned tax money, you Yahoo’s!
Mismatched light poles are all the rage. And if not now, give it a couple of years and they will be back in fashion.
What a waste!!!
And then looking for fees for selected services! What nerve!
>One would expect once the work is undertaken, all safety precautions should be taken for the immediate areas of construction, to ensure the safety of all pedestrians and all businesses in the affected areas, including the Outdoor Cafe’s extended out to the curb lamp posts, so not to put diners, pedestrians at risk. Would imagine the sidewalk café’s tables will be affected, and not be operational during this change/installation.
