Newark NJ, in the recent school board election in Newark, only 3% of eligible voters participated. On Wednesday night, the Newark City Council introduced an ordinance that proposes lowering the voting age to 16 specifically for school board elections. This ordinance is set to undergo a vote on January 10.
The Newark Public School District encompasses 65 schools and serves 40,876 students, with the entire student body being of minority enrollment. Additionally, 56.5% of the students are considered economically disadvantaged.
