Ridgewood NJ, the website NICHE came out with its 2023 Best Places to Live in New Jersey  and Ridgewood came in at number 4, just behind neighbor Ho-Ho-Kus at Number 3. Other Bergen county towns that made the list include River Edge at #5 , Closter #6 , Harrington Park #8, Old Tappan #13 , Haworth #14, Allendale #16, and neighbor Glen Rock #23 rounding out the top 25.

The big surprise is River Edge which  came in at #5 and with our unscientific observations we still view Paramus one of the most under rated towns in Bergen . Paramus made the top 25 in another NICHE list coming in #23 in Bast Places in New Jersey to Retire .

Any town that makes the top 50 in a populous county like Bergen with so many nice places to live should be proud of themselves. It’s important to note that while Niche’s rankings can provide valuable insights, they are based on a specific set of criteria that might not match everyone’s preferences. What might be the “best” place for one person might not be the same for another, depending on individual priorities, preferences, and circumstances. Therefore, it’s a good idea to use these rankings as one source of information among others when considering where to live.

“Niche” is a website that provides information, rankings, and reviews on a variety of topics, including schools, neighborhoods, and places to live. While I can’t provide real-time information on their exact methodology as of 2023, as of my last update in September 2021, I can offer insights into how Niche typically determines the best places to live in a specific area like New Jersey.

Data Collection and Analysis: Niche gathers data from a variety of sources, including government databases, surveys, and user-generated content. They collect information on factors like cost of living, housing, crime rates, education quality, employment opportunities, amenities, and more.

Weighting of Factors: Niche assigns different weights to each factor based on their perceived importance. For instance, they might give more weight to factors like schools and safety, as these are often crucial considerations for families.

User Reviews and Surveys: Niche often includes user-generated content such as reviews and surveys from residents. These can provide insights into the local experience and give a more nuanced view of an area’s livability.

Statistical Analysis: Niche employs statistical analysis to process and compare the data they’ve collected. This can involve calculating averages, medians, standard deviations, and more to determine how a place compares to others.

Scoring and Rankings: Based on their data analysis, Niche assigns a score to each location they’re evaluating. These scores are then used to create rankings, with the highest-scoring areas being considered the best places to live.

Category-specific Rankings: Niche often breaks down their rankings into various categories, such as “Best Places to Raise a Family,” “Safest Places,” “Best Places for Young Professionals,” and so on. This allows individuals to find the location that aligns with their specific priorities.

Regular Updates: Rankings and scores can change over time as new data becomes available. Niche typically updates their rankings periodically to reflect changes in the data.

  1. Closter ?

No way….that’s got to be a joke.

  2. Ridgewood is still a top town despite all it’s flaws.
Sure it’s not as good as it used to be…..same goes for most other places.

Let the complaining begin…cause that’s what we do here!

  10. good for River Edge , you’ve come a long way !

  11. not a mention of turf fields in the rating process

  12. Paramus can’t be a “best place” because it is too sprawling and all cut up by highways.

    1. Totally agree. Paramus a best place to live? Who did they survey? Someone who doesn’t live here? Where do I begin? Overdevelopment, overdevelopment, overdevelopment, traffic, traffic, traffic, crime. If that’s your idea of a best place to live you need to get your head examined. Decades ago Paramus was a very nice place to live. Not anymore.

  13. Computer cowboys go get them . Freedom of speech, oh yes . It’s amazing how many people think they can stop people from speaking. You don’t like it, f!,”k. Off .

    1. i agree with you that the apartments are out of character. Unfortunately the liberal left wing NJ supreme court allowed the Mt. Laurel ruling to pass. So if the developers don’t get what they want, they pull that shit out of their ass and fill the town with a lot more apartments if they provide a portion as low income housing. It sucks, but its a DIRECT RESULT of voting for liberal democrats. I dont like the apartments but if it got adverserial we would have more units

      1. Which apartments?

All the ones on Maple by Spring St.? The oak st apartments? The dozens on Ridgewood Ave headed towards the highschool? The ones off Godwin near midland park? The ones in the building on Franklin? All the ones above the stores in the CBD?

All have existed for literally decades with no complaints.

Oh, you’re referring to the luxury apartments that replaced the crumbing former car dealerships. That, somehow, is a bridge too far.
