Major Traffic Enforcement: NJ State Police Launch Regional Crackdown on Aggressive Driving
the staff of the Ridgewood blog
Ridgewood NJ, Drivers in the tri-state area should prepare for a significant increase in police presence on the roads. The New Jersey State Police (NJSP), in a massive coordinated effort with the Pennsylvania State Police and the NJ Division of Highway Traffic Safety, has launched a high-intensity enforcement wave targeting aggressive and dangerous driving behaviors.
When and Where is the Enforcement Happening?
The initiative is currently active and will run through April 26. Motorists can expect to see a surge in patrols across major highways, local corridors, and interstate boundaries connecting New Jersey and Pennsylvania.
What Officers are Looking For
This multi-jurisdictional operation isn’t just about speeding. Law enforcement agencies, including the NJ Association of Chiefs of Police, are utilizing “high-visibility patrols” and “traffic enforcement zones” to cite drivers for:
-
Speeding and Careless Driving: Excessive speeds on highways and through local neighborhoods.
-
Distracted Driving: Illegal phone use and other behaviors that take eyes off the road.
-
Work Zone Safety: Increased protection for road crews and construction zones.
-
Dangerous Maneuvers: Tailgating and unsafe lane changes.
The Goal Zero Mission
This crackdown is part of the Goal Zero campaign, a strategic effort to reach a future with zero highway fatalities. By implementing “multi-jurisdictional operations,” police departments are sharing data and resources to identify high-risk areas and reduce crashes, injuries, and fatalities.
The Message is Clear: Safer driving saves lives. Whether you are commuting on the Turnpike, I-95, or local routes, the goal is to ensure every driver reaches their destination safely.
How to Avoid a Ticket During the Enforcement Wave
-
Observe Work Zone Limits: Fines are often doubled in construction areas.
-
Put the Phone Away: NJ and PA have strict hands-free laws that are a primary focus of this campaign.
-
Maintain Following Distance: Avoid tailgating, as “aggressive” maneuvers are a top priority for troopers during this window.

I hope “local corridor” includes N Monroe St. I cannot believe the speeds that people achieve on the stretch from W Glen to W Ridgewood Ave. As the driver is approaching the light at W Ridgewood and sees that it is green, they gun it at dangerous speeds to ‘make the light’. Just crazy and it is a serious safety issue at all times of day.
How about getting the slugs out of the left lane that hold up traffic, thus forcing drivers to pass on the right which decreases safety.
Also, NY ambulances that are used as taxis that blast down 17 with lights and sirens, causing cars to dangerously merge right to avoid the scammers
