NJ TRANSIT will close Newark Penn Station overnight from 11:00 p.m. until 4:30 a.m for Cleaning and Disinfection

Newark NJ,  To protect NJ TRANSIT customers and employees, the hours of operation at Newark Penn Station will be modified overnight to allow for a daily deeper cleaning and disinfection. Starting Sunday, May 3 until further notice, NJ TRANSIT will close Newark Penn Station overnight from 11:00 p.m. until 4:30 a.m. The station will reopen daily at 4:30 a.m.

All NJ TRANSIT trains, bus and light rail service operating between 11:00 p.m. and 4:30 a.m. will continue to run during these hours. During this time, customers will use the Raymond Plaza East entrance to enter and exit the station.

Customers using PATH services at Newark Penn Station during the overnight will board on Track 1 (also known as Track B); PATH customers deboarding at NPS will use Track 2. Track H will be closed Monday through Friday between 11:00 p.m. and 4:30 a.m. and on Saturdays and Sundays between 11:00 p.m. and 6:00 a.m.

To protect NJ TRANSIT and Amtrak customers and employees using New York Penn Station, Amtrak has modified the hours for New York Penn Station to allow for daily deeper cleaning of the station and trains. Starting Sunday, May 3 until further notice, Amtrak will close its concourse, which resides on the upper level of the station by 8th Avenue between 31st and 33rd Street at 12:00 a.m., and NJ Transit will close its concourse at 1:00 a.m. The station will reopen in full at 5:00 a.m.

Amtrak has also increased the frequency of cleaning services onboard trains and at stations and have increased the quantity of sanitizers available for customers and employees. All closures allow for egress in an emergency.

In addition, all NJ TRANSIT trains that operate between 1:00 and 5:00 a.m. will continue to operate during these hours. Those customers will be allowed to enter/exit the station as needed.

  1. Not for nothing New Jersey transit should’ve been doing this many years ago. It’s unacceptable how some of these buses and trains train stations to look disgusting.

  2. Why did it take so long to shut everything down at night and clean. All the trains, all the buses, and all the train stations should’ve been on a routine maintenance schedule cleaning many years ago. It sound like I don’t have the money. Ridiculous
