RIDGEWOOD, NJ — A routine visit to a local medical plaza turned into a scene of chaos this week after a dispute escalated into a violent confrontation involving an unlikely weapon: a wall-mounted coat rack.
A Dispute Turned Dangerous
On Tuesday afternoon, March 10, Ridgewood police were dispatched to a medical office at 1200 E. Ridge Ave. following reports of a heated altercation. According to Ridgewood Police Capt. Glenn Ender, the incident began as a verbal argument between a man and a woman inside one of the offices.
The confrontation quickly spilled out into the hallway, where things took a physical—and bizarre—turn.
Weapon of Opportunity
Investigators say the suspect, identified as 54-year-old Stella Tuttman of Hawthorne, became so enraged during the fight that she allegedly ripped a coat rack directly off the hallway wall.
Police report that Tuttman then used one of the metal hooks to strike the victim in the arm. The force of the blow caused a significant laceration, requiring medical attention.
Charges and Arrest
Following the investigation at the scene, Tuttman was taken into custody. She currently faces several serious charges, including:
-
Aggravated Assault (due to the severity of the injury)
-
Possession of a Weapon for Unlawful Purposes
Tuttman, a Greece native according to jail records, was transported to the Bergen County Jail. However, court records indicate she was released the following day pending further legal proceedings.
