WEST TRENTON  NJ,  Earlier today, New Jersey Governor Phil Murphy, First Lady Tammy Murphy, and Colonel Patrick J. Callahan of the New Jersey State Police met with the Little League Elmora Troopers baseball team and their family and friends at the New Jersey State Police Museum and Log Cabin at Division Headquarters to celebrate their inspiring journey to the Little League World Series in Williamsport, P.A.

The Elmora Troopers had to beat the best teams in New Jersey to win the State Championship before heading to Connecticut to play in the Mid-Atlantic Region Championship where they won the tournament, which qualified them to participate in the Little League World Series.  The Troopers were one of only eight teams from across the country to make it to the tournament and one of the final four teams in the United States bracket.

New bridge landing NJ, Lithographs, based largely upon eyewitness observations and sketches, record the growing popularity of baseball among soldiers, who played games in camp during leisurely interludes of the American Civil War. Baseball grew into a truly national pastime, as both an athletic competition and spectator sport, when returning veterans established the now standardized game in hometowns from coast to coast.

New Bridge Landing NJ, Love baseball? Love history? Step back into yesteryear when the Bergen County Historical Society once again hosts an old-time game in the Meadow at Historic New Bridge Landing in River Edge. Featuring the Flemington Neshanocks versus the Enterprise Club of New Bridge!  It is said that the Enterprise Club was the best base ball team in the County in the 1870’s, can they regain that form after a long lay off?

Experience the crack of wood against leather, the cheers and jeers of the crowd, and baseball the way great-grandpa saw it, when these reenactor teams play with 19th century rules, equipment, and uniforms in an open field. A great way for the family to enjoy America’s game and cap of their Fourth of July celebrations!

Ridgewood NJ, on this day in 1865, the United States of America abolished slavery with passage of the 13th Amendment! It was the first amendment to the Constitution in more than 60 years, as the initial 12 amendments occurred shortly after the Constitution was adopted.

There were still approximately 40,000 slaves remaining in Kentucky alone were freed by the 13th Amendment.”Neither slavery nor involuntary servitude, except as a punishment for crime whereof the party shall have been duly convicted, shall exist within the United States, or any place subject to their jurisdiction.”

The 13th amendment, along with the 14th & 15th, is one of the trio of Civil War amendments that greatly expanded the civil rights of Americans.

Today also marks what would have been Jackie Robinson’s 100th birthday. In 1947, Jackie Robinson became the first black player in the most popular sport in America, and helped change the way the country thought about racial integration.

If is often said the ,Babe Ruth changed baseball , while Jackie Robinson changed America.
