New Bridge landing NJ, Todd Braisted is speaking this Sunday, 11/24/19, at 3:00 pm in the Steuben House at our event at HNBL.

​Todd Braisted is an author and independent researcher specializing in Loyalist studies during the American Revolution. He has published over forty books and journal articles on a variety of period subjects, including the 2016 book Grand Forage 1778. His website, royalprovincial.com, is the leading site for Loyalist research since it debuted in 2000. Todd has likewise appeared as a guest historian in such television shows as History Detectives and Who Do You Think You Are?

New bridge landing NJ, Lithographs, based largely upon eyewitness observations and sketches, record the growing popularity of baseball among soldiers, who played games in camp during leisurely interludes of the American Civil War. Baseball grew into a truly national pastime, as both an athletic competition and spectator sport, when returning veterans established the now standardized game in hometowns from coast to coast.

Step back into yesteryear when the Bergen County Historical Society once again hosts an old-time game in the Meadow at Historic New Bridge Landing in River Edge. Featuring the Flemington Neshanocks versus the Enterprise Club of New Bridge!  It is said that the Enterprise Club was the best base ball team in the County in the 1870’s, can they regain that form after a long lay off?

Experience the crack of wood against leather, the cheers and jeers of the crowd, and baseball the way great-grandpa saw it, when these reenactor teams play with 19th century rules, equipment, and uniforms in an open field. A great way for the family to enjoy America’s game and cap of their Fourth of July celebrations!

Due to his service during the War, he received a stately mansion on the banks of the Hackensack. Bergen County Historical Society Picks Team for Vintage Baseball Game

New Bridge Landing NJ, for Bergen County Historical Society gentlemen from River Edge stepped up to the plate to form a team for Vintage Baseball for the game with the Flemington Neshanocks on July 13.

First meeting was last night. Thanks Mike Ginch for putting us in touch with these players! BCHS Joe Restivo and Sean Hennessy will be joining the team too, to form The Enterprise Club of New Bridge. We met Sean O’Leary, Steven Baxter, Ken Schuff plus six more fellows.

Game takes place at Historic New Bridge Landing, 1201 Main St, River Edge, NJ, 11 am-2 pm. $10 adults, $5 students.

River Edge NJ, Today, the Bergen County Historical Society announces it will join museums nationwide in participating in the tenth summer of Blue Star Museums, a program which provides free admission to our nation’s active-duty military personnel and their families this summer. The 2019 program will begin earlier than in past years, launching on Saturday, May 18, 2019, Armed Forces Day, and ending on Monday, September 2, 2019, Labor Day. Military can find the list of participating museums at arts.gov/bluestarmuseums.

Hackensack NJ, May 27, 2019: In commemoration of the 239th anniversary of the death of General Enoch Poor, of New Hampshire, during the Steenrapie Encampment, the Bergen County Historical Society is laying a floral wreath upon his grave in the Hackensack Church on the Green.

James Thacher, a Surgeon in the Continental army, described General Poor’s death and funeral with the following entry in his Military Journal:

Bergen County Historical Society‎ Pinkster Fest – A Jersey Dutch Celebration of Spring

New Bridge Landing NJ, Experience history in one of the storied places where it was made!

\Pinkster is celebrated with a Maypole Dance at 1:30 & 3:00 pm with a participation session during the country dances. Ridley and Anne Enslow are featured on fiddle and hammered dulcimer. In the outkitchen cooks will be naturally dyeing eggs for Pinkster and making oliebollen, Dutch Donuts. This event features fun children’s games. The 3 houses including the Steuben House a state-historic site and the barn are open for tours.
