A Glen Rock sergeant who was out on bail while facing charges that he sent sexually explicit texts to two teenage girls has been arrested again, this time on charges that he tried to sell guns that had been surrendered to the Glen Rock Police Department.

Sgt. Eric Reamy, 51, is a 27-year veteran of the department and was the Evidence Officer in charge of the department’s Detective Bureau. He allegedly took custody of several handguns and rifles and tried to sell them at two gun stores “as though they were his own property,” Bergen County Prosecutor John Molinelli said in a release.

A laptop and a pellet gun, which should have been secured in evidence, also were found at his previous residence during the execution of a search warrant on Aug. 5, Molinelli said.

Reamy faces seven counts of theft by failure to make required disposition of property received, all third-degree crimes.

A bail hearing for a Glen Rock police officer accused of sending explicit text messages to two teenage girls he was supervising as the borough’s juvenile officer has been rescheduled for Thursday.

Sgt. Eric Reamy remained held at the Bergen County Jail on $250,000 bail, following his arrest last week on charges that he also exchanged nude photos with one of the girls.

Judge Susan Steele in Superior Court in Hackensack had held a bail reduction hearing on Monday and had scheduled the continuation of that hearing for Wednesday, which was then postponed until Thursday.

Jail officials testified on Monday that Reamy was initially placed on suicide watch as a matter of standard protocol but was later removed from the watch after he was found to pose no risk to himself.

Jail officials also said they had concerns about two guns that Reamy had bought that remained unaccounted for. Reamy had bought 11 guns over the years, according to the state police registry, and nine of them have been accounted for.

A Glen Rock police detective charged with sending sexually explicit text messages to two teenage girls he was supervising as the borough’s juvenile officer, and exchanging nude photos with one of them, on Monday moved a step closer to being released on bail with an electronic ankle bracelet.

During a hearing in Hackensack, Superior Court Judge Susan Steele heard testimony from Jacqueline Gill, a mental health technician who conducts suicide risk assessments on inmates coming into the Bergen County Jail. The judge also heard from Sheriff’s Department Sgt. Daniel Marro, who discussed the county’s enhanced bail program with electronic monitoring.

Gill testified that Sgt. Eric Reamy was placed on suicide watch by a nurse when he entered the jail last week, based solely on “standard protocol,” due to the sexual nature of the charges and his high bail, which was set at $250,000.

A Glen Rock detective whose job centered on protecting children was arrested Wednesday, accused of sending naked photos of himself to a 14-year-old girl and sexually explicit text messages to another teenage girl, both of whom had been under his supervision, authorities said.

Detective Sgt. Eric Reamy, 51, the borough’s juvenile officer, was arrested at his home in Fair Lawn following a one-month investigation that began when the mother of a 17-year-old girl went to Glen Rock police after finding “inappropriate” messages from the detective on her daughter’s cellphone, Bergen County Prosecutor John Molinelli said.

The investigation led police to a 14-year-old girl who recently moved with her family to Texas, and whose phone was examined Tuesday by Bergen County detectives who traveled there to interview her and her parents, the prosecutor said. Reamy had persuaded the girl to send him naked photos of herself and had sent her “two naked photos of his private part,” Molinelli said.

Reamy has been charged with five counts of endangering the welfare of a child, including one first-degree count, Molinelli said.
