The Gun Violence Archive is an online archive of gun violence data

Ridgewood NJ, the Gun Violence Archive is an online archive of gun violence data . The GVA claims :

“the Gun Violence Archive an online archive of gun violence incidents collected from over 2,000 media, law enforcement, government and commercial sources daily in an effort to provide  near-real time data about the results of gun violence. GVA in an independent data collection and research group with no affiliation with any advocacy organization.”

The organization maps gun violence at a micro level. in 2015 New Jersey 252 gun-related deaths occurred. The results for New Jersey are as one would expect,  the data shows that New Jersey’s gun violence was mainly concentrated in Newark and Camden. Well no surprise there.

Over all according to the Guardian News Paper ; “Using this data, the Guardian found that half of the United States’ gun murders in 2015 were clustered in 127 cities . We also found that violence was concentrated even further than simply the city level: census tract areas that contain just 1.5% of the country’s population saw 26% of America’s total gun homicides.”

There was no data on the gun ownership ,be they legal owners or unlawful owners  a fact that seems conspicuously absent from this and other attempts to collect gun data.

Disadvantaged communities seemed to suffer the most pronounced impact from the violence, such as in Essex County, where gun violence fluctuated by the percentage of minority residents. The data for 2015 shows particularly low-income, disadvantaged neighborhoods can become hotbeds for gun violence.

There was also no tracking of the impact of sanctuary cites and immigration status although both Camden and Newark are considered sanctuary cities .

Anti gun groups can not glean much from the data , since it suggests that most gun violence is perpetrated on and by a very small portion of the population with no coloration to stringent gun restrictions. Causes seem as uncorrelated as well and solutions seem almost non existent.

Guns topping Christmas lists thanks to terrorism concerns, fear over restriction

guns

by Taboola

The convergence of fears over terrorism, a perceived threat of gun laws being changed and the Christmas holiday have sent gun sales soaring in what is already the busiest month of the year for firearm purchases.

Guns are at the top of many Christmas lists, especially if November is any indication.

Last month, the FBI ran more than 2.2 million firearm background checks on potential buyers, a 24 percent increase from November 2014. On Black Friday, a record 185,345 background checks were processed by the FBI.

The Left’s Smears on Research That Doesn’t Support Their Conclusions

climate change hoax

From gun control to climate change

John Stossel | December 2, 2015

I pointed out that after most states loosened gun laws to let people carry guns, 29 peer-reviewed studies examined the effect. Eighteen found less crime, 10 found no difference and only one found an increase.

“Which studies?” Barrett snapped. “John Lott’s? His research has been totallydiscredited.”

“Discredited” is a word the anti-gun activists use a lot. It’s as if they speak from the same playbook.

“Lott is a widely discredited ideologue,” said a spokeswoman for Everytown—a Bloomberg-funded gun control group.

“Completely discredited” is how the director of the Johns Hopkins Center for Gun Policy described Lott’s research.

The left-wing site Salon says Lott “was discredited in the early 2000s.”

Media Matters for America called Lott “discredited” at least 40 times.

So how is Lott “discredited”? Barrett says, “He claims his data was lost on his hard drive. Well, go re-create it! He hasn’t been able to!” But that’s false. Lott’s “More Guns, Less Crime” study has been replicated often, including by the National Research Council and even by some critics.

After a hard-drive crash, Lott did lose data that supported a lesser point: 98 percent of the time, people only need to point a gun at a criminal for him to back down. But Lott did replicate that survey (he got 95 percent, close results for statistical purposes). That data is posted on his group’s website and available to anyone who wants it.

Thousands set to protest Obama in Roseburg, Oregon, on Friday

protests obama

October 9, 201512:01 AM MST

On Friday, President Barack Obama plans to visit the community of Roseburg, Oregon, home of Umpqua Community College, the school that has become “ground zero” in the most recent gun control debate. But the president’s visit has raised the ire of many who believe his trip is intended to advance his gun control agenda. As of late Thursday, nearly 7,900 people have said they intend to protest Obama’s visit. On Thursday, Seattle’s KING-5 said that multiple protests are planned for the day, with at least two being held by the Douglas County Tea Party to show support for County Sheriff John Hanlin.

Early Thursday, the Facebook event “Defend Roseburg — Deny Barack Obama” boasted over 6,500 possible attendees. That number significantly increased in the course of the day, with the event gaining support nationwide. It is uncertain exactly how many of those will actually show up, however, as a number have said they are coming from California and elsewhere.

Event organizers have also announced protests in two separate locations. They intend to stay away from the funerals and some may bring firearms, they added, suggesting that those who come armed carry handguns as opposed to rifles.

President Barack Obama will travel to Oregon this week to visit privately with families of the victims of last week’s shooting at a community college.

However the trip has angered locals in Roseburg who say Obama is ‘not welcome’ in the town because the visit will be nothing but a ‘grandstand for political purposes’.

Leading the chorus is David Jaques, the publisher of conservative newspaper the Roseburg Beacon.

‘I think that’s very inappropriate, and I think it’s disrespectful to the families,’ Jaques told Breitbart News.

OBAMA POLITICIZES CHARLESTON SHOOTING: CALLS FOR GUN CONTROL, SLAMS AMERICA

obama_3204604b

by JOEL B. POLLAK18 Jun 2015

President Barack Obama reacted to Wednesday’s horrific massacre at the Emanuel African Methodist Episcopal Church in Charleston, South Carolina by calling for gun control and criticizing the United States for the frequency of mass shooting events. “We don’t have all the facts, but we do know that, once again, innocent people were killed in part because someone who wanted to inflict harm had no trouble getting their hands on a gun,” Obama said, adding: “At some point, we as a country will have to reckon with the fact that this type of mass violence does not happen in other advanced countries.”

Obama is wrong on both counts. Innocent people were killed because a murderer–likely motivated by racial hatred–had a gun–but guns in the right hands have stopped, or interrupted similar attacks before. In South Africa, for example–whose racist past seems to have provided gruesome inspiration for the Charleston killer–a parishoner stopped a mass shooting by a black nationalist group against a multi-racial congregation by firing his .38 revolver at the assailants, who ran away.
