i219063 CapitolBuildingWashingtonDC1

BY STAFFWRITER9 · PUBLISHED DECEMBER 27, 2016

On Monday, The Washington Times reported on a government issued message to police in Northern Virginia that informed the local officers of nine individuals that had been arrested on charges of aiding ISIS since 2014. The report, issued by the Northern Virginia Regional Intelligence Center on December 21, was labeled “law enforcement sensitive” and issued profiles of the nine residents in order to help state and federal agents recognize trends in ISIS’ recruitment of individuals. This specific report detailed Muslims located near D.C. that were intent on becoming mass killers in the name of jihad.

According to the report, all but one of the Northern Virginia residents were in their teens or early 20’s. Among the nine individuals arrested on suspicion of conducting terrorism planning through social media applications were well educated students, a police officer, Army soldiers, and bankers.

The Washington Times obtained the intelligence report detailing the nine individuals.

One man by the name of Ali Shukir Amin pleaded guilty to providing support to the Islamic State and was sentenced to 136 months in prison. Amin ran a pro-ISIS blog and tweeted instructions to ISIS supporters about how to hide money transfers using bitcoin and how to travel to Syria.

A woman by the name of Heather Coffman was sentenced to 54 months in prison after pleading guilty to making a false statement about her involvement in international terrorism. Discharged from the Army after only four months, Coffman worked in sales while she ran Facebook pages promoting ISIS.

Mohammad Bilor Jalloh served as a combat engineer in the Virginia National Guard before pleading guilty to conspiring to help the Islamic State in October. Jalloh allegedly tried to buy firearms with the intention of carrying out a “Fort Hood-style” massacre.

Mohammad Jamal Khaweis, who worked at multiple banks and hotels, was arrested in Turkey for conspiring to aid the Islamic State. He traveled to Syria in 2015 with the intention of becoming a foreign fighter, before changing his mind and escaping.

The oldest of the nine arrested, 36-year-old Nicholas Young, was working s a Metro Police officer before his arrest. Authorities report that he went to Libya to inform ISIS supporters of methods to use to avoid being detected by law enforcement.

ISIS Puts Out Holiday Attack List Of U.S. Churches

church_sky_theridgewoodblog

The terror group threatened “bloody celebrations in the Christian New Year”

By Gilad Shiloach
Dec 22, 2016 at 4:19 AM ET

The Islamic State published the names and addresses of thousands of churches in the United States and called on its adherents to attack them during the holiday season, according to a message posted late-night Wednesday in the group’s “Secrets of Jihadis” social media group.

A user going by the name of “Abu Marya al-Iraqi” posted an Arabic-language message calling “for bloody celebrations in the Christian New Year” and announced the group’s plans to utilize its network of lone wolf attackers to “turn the Christian New Year into a bloody horror movie.”

The series of messages appeared in a pro-ISIS group on Telegram, which also provides manuals for the use and preparations of weapons and explosives for aspiring assailants. The information, distributed in a number of posts, was all previously available online and includes a public directory of churches across all 50 states. (Vocativ does not publish specific information found in lists like these.)

In another group post, a member summoned “the sons of Islam” to target “churches, well-known hotels, crowded coffee shops, streets, markets and public places,” and shared a list of addresses in the United States, as well as in Canada, France and the Netherlands.

ISIS claimed responsibility for this week’s Christmas market attack in Berlin that killed 12 and injured 48. The group said that the assailant was a “soldier of the Islamic State,” who followed organizational orders “to target coalition countries.” The suspect was identified as Anis Amri, a Tunisian man in his 20s who reportedly had Salafi and jihadi connections in Tunisia and Germany. He is still the object of a massive manhunt in Germany.

The Islamic State has published such lists before — in June, Vocativ reported on a “kill list” that included more than 8,000 names and addresses, including that of police officers in the United States. The June list resulted in no known attacks.

State admits: Islamic State terrorists trying to pose as refugees

Chelsea bombing

State Department spokesman John Kirby acknowledged Wednesday that Islamic State terrorists are trying to mingle with refugee populations overseas in the hopes of making it to the U.S. posing as a refugee.

“I wouldn’t debate the fact that there’s the potential for ISIS terrorists to try to insert themselves, and we see that in some of the refugee camps in Jordan and in Turkey, where they try to insert themselves into the population,” Kirby said on “Fox and Friends.”

Lt Col Mann : “US national and local leadership are handling this weekend’s terror attacks on civilians like a little boy whistling in the dark”

Scott Mann Head Shot

September 20,2016

the staff of the Ridgewood blog

Ridgewood NJ, according to Lt Col Mann the US national and local leadership are handling this weekend’s terror attacks on civilians in New York City, New Jersey, and Minnesota like a little boy whistling in the dark. “Except whistling in this situation doesn’t make the “boogey man” go away, it makes him stronger. The inability of politicians and some law enforcement to identify, grasp, and respond to these emerging local terror realities continues to put American’s at risk,” says Lt Col Mann.

Lt Col Mann gives us some quick thoughts;

Every U.S. citizen should note that ISIS has changed the application of terrorism in America and the West.

Where al Qa’ida strives for grand, spectacular attacks like the World Trade Center and Pentagon, ISIS targets us with a centralized message but de-centralized execution.

While politically correct leaders label these strikes “lone-wolf attacks” and dismiss their effects as local, home-grown amateur events – ISIS is maximizing their ability to bring horrific, inter-personal violence right into our shopping malls, 5K runs, and cafes.

As a Green Beret who spent his life learning and practicing the dark art of Guerrilla Warfare abroad, I say this, “Get Ready America…ISIS has found their game of “horrorism”. And they are going to bring it to us up close and personal than we’ve ever seen. Expect more and more local attacks in our schools, restaurants, and shopping centers for pennies on the dollar to what al Qa’ida manages to do once every couple of years.

The game has changed, and it’s high time we demand in this election year that our leaders acknowledge it.

Scott helped pioneer a program of community-based stability in the roughest places of tribal Afghanistan that has been widely accepted by community leaders and law enforcement across the U.S. Scott speaks and trains today’s civilian leaders on recognizing the erosion of trust in our society today, and learning the skills he developed as a Green Beret to address group tensions, make deep human connections, restore trust, and then bridge communities back together from the bottom-up. He spent 23 years in the Army Special Forces Career involved in Foreign Internal Defense, Counter-insurgency, and Stability Missions. He served in the Special Operations for over 18 years and has been a Green Beret for over 15 years in combat deployments in Colombia, Ecuador, Peru, Panama, Iraq and Afghanistan. He is one of the only former Lt. Col’s that is actively still involved in the day-to-day transition of Green Berets from active duty into civilian life. Things New Yorkers Are More Afraid of Than ISIS

cockroach

By Madison Malone Kircher

Welcome to New York. It’s been waiting for you. And by “it,” I mean cockroaches, bedbugs, six train cars with broken air conditioners, and that guy dressed as an off-brand Tickle Me Elmo in Times Square leering at you. There’s a lot to be truly terrified of in this city.

Following the Chelsea bombing that occurred over the weekend, there was lots of talk online about how many New Yorkers weren’t phased or scared by the incident and the potential groups or motives behind it. To which, Twitter user @BobbyBigWheel (known in the real world as Robert Wheel) started a running list of the things one actually has to fear in New York. Ranked number one: getting pushed onto the subway tracks. Number eight: finding out your neighbor has bed bugs. Number 1,563: ISIS.

What Drives Foreigners to Join the Islamic State?

ISIS_theridgewoodblog

Hint: It’s not primarily poverty, political grievances, feelings of marginalization or lack of integration. When will world leaders wake up?
BY RYAN MAURO

Tue, August 30, 2016

Almost 15 years after the 9/11 attacks, the West is still debating the cause of such terrorism even as repeated studies and common sense points in one direction:  Islamist ideology based on certain religious interpretations.

Now we can add another study to this heap of evidence, as a new study of foreign fighters has confirmed that ideology is the primary factor.

The new study released by the Canadian Network for Research on Terrorism, Security and Society is based on interviews with 40 foreign fighters who went overseas to join Islamist terrorist groups in Iraq and Syria and 100 other relevant players, such as their family members and online supporters.

Of these, 15 joined the Islamic State (ISIS or ISIL), 12 joined Jabhat al-Nusra (Al-Qaeda’s Syrian wing), three joined the Free Syria Army and 10 joined other rebel groups, mostly jihadist in nature.

Here are five of the most important findings from the study:

The primary factor is religious interpretation.

“As our interactions with these individuals are so heavily mediated by a religious discourse, we also think that religiosity (i.e., sincere religious commitment, no matter how ill-informed or unorthodox) is a primary motivator for their actions. Religion provides the dominant frame these foreign fighters use to interpret almost every aspect of their lives.”

And:

“There is a real concern with real moral issues, with knowing and doing the right thing—again, not as determined by the seeming apathetic and corrupt surrounding society but by some higher or transcendent authority.”

This is the obvious conclusion that many observers have sought to deny, such as when former State Department Deputy Spokesperson Marie Harf said ISIS is caused by unemployment and subsequently defended her comments. She was laughed out of her job, but her illogical understanding of the problem remains pervasive as many Westerners desperately seek to find a more comforting and relatable cause than Islamism for Islamist terrorism.

One Western Muslim told the authors, “The zeal of jihad always struck me when I would sit in my room and read Quran with English translation. I would wonder how jihad was fought today.”

The political gripes of the Islamist terrorists are a subset of their religious gripes.

“[Most] provided justifications for being a foreign fighter that were largely moral and religious in character, more than explicitly political.”

The researchers found that the decision to become a foreign fighter was more about rejecting Western governments and societies than a decision to combat Western foreign policy.

The common mantra that Islamist radicalization is simply a religious expression of political protests over Western “imperialism” is false. The primary factor is the adoption of the ideology and those that hold that ideology will become exponentially more infuriated over the West’s foreign policy. If you believe in resurrecting the caliphate, then you’ll rage against the West’s presence in the Middle East that stands in your way.

It’s not about inequality.

“None indicate, directly or indirectly, that forms of socio-economic marginalization played a significant role in their motivations to become a foreign fighter.”

Here we have yet another study finding no connection between Islamist radicalization and unemployment, poverty, lack of education, broken families, mental illness, etc. About half of the foreign fighters in this sample went to university and one-third graduated.

The study identified five “ecological niches of homegrown terrorism:” Late modernity (our Internet-driven society); the immigrant experience (most come from Muslim immigrant families); youthful rebellion; ideology and group dynamics.

The linkage between Islamism and lack of integration is overemphasized.

“The correlation between marginalization or lack of integration and radicalization are not as robust as commonly assumed.”

Previous studies have shown a linkage between a lack of assimilation and Islamist radicalization. For example, Marc Sageman’s pivotal study based on 400 biographies of Al-Qaeda members found that80% “were, in some way, totally excluded from the society they lived in.”

This study doesn’t deny that a correlation exists, but rather that the correlation is played up too much. The authors refer to how some respondents described feeling out of place in the West as they saw how it conflicted with their faith. In these cases, the religious belief is prompting the individual to marginalize himself, as opposed to Western society marginalizing the individual and pushing him towards radical beliefs.

They aren’t lone wolves.

“The process of self-radicalization needs to be legitimated to be complete.”

The researchers found that, in most cases, “outside mentors” enter the Islamist’s life and guide him into becoming a foreign fighter. They are not lone wolves if they are being led, even if it is online.

The West can either craft a strategy for each Islamist terrorist group it goes up against, starting over and over with each new manifestation or it can target the common variable between all of them. This study, like others before it, finds that the common variable is Islamism and its foundational religious interpretations.

DNC cleans house after emails

Wikileaks_founder_Julian_Assange_theridgewoodblog

By Lisa Hagen

Three top staffers are leaving the Democratic National Committee (DNC) in a staff shakeup spurred by the leak of damaging emails about the primary battle between Hillary Clinton and Bernie Sanders.

The CEO of the DNC, Amy Dacey, is departing, as are communications director Luis Miranda and chief financial officer Brad Marshall, the DNC announced in a statement.

Donna Brazile, who is taking the reins of the DNC following the resignation of Debbie Wasserman Schultz (R-Fla.) as chairwoman, made no mention of the email scandal in her statement, mostly thanking the departing staffers for their service.

“Thanks in part to the hard work of Amy, Luis, and Brad, the Democratic Party has adopted the most progressive platform in history, has put itself in financial position to win in November, and has begun the important work of investing in state party partnerships,” Brazile said in a statement.

“I’m so grateful for their commitment to this cause, and I wish them continued success in the next chapter of their career.”

But it’s clear that the DNC is trying to turn the page from the disastrous leak of nearly 20,000 stolen emails, which appeared to show officials at the committee plotting against Sanders’s presidential campaign.

Those messages, published by WikiLeaks just days before the Democratic convention, caused a political firestorm.

ISIS Kills Priest Inside French Church

Islamist knifemen forced priest, 84, to kneel and filmed his death as they slit his throat: Hollande says ‘France is at war with ISIS’ after jihadists storm French church during Mass chanting ‘Allahu Akbar’

Vatican has condemned the ‘barbaric’ killing of the 84-year-old priest and an anti-terror investigation is underway
ISIS claim responsibility for the atrocity while Francois Hollande says France is ‘at war’ with the terror group
One of the attackers lived locally and had electronic tag having been jailed in France for trying to travel to Syria
French authorities revealed this afternoon that they have arrested a third man in connection with the attack

The ISIS barbarians who stormed into a church in Normandy filmed themselves butchering an elderly priest after forcing him to the ground at the altar, it has emerged.

The 84-year-old priest, named as Jacques Hamel, had his throat cut while a nun is critically injured in hospital following the raid which saw five people held hostage by ISIS assailants shouting ‘Allahu Akbar’.

The two killers were ‘neutralised’ by marksmen as they emerged from the building, which is now being searched for explosives. French president Francois Hollande said France is ‘at war’ with ISIS while the terror group has claimed responsibility for the killing.

One of the men who stormed into the church in Saint-Etienne-du-Rouvray near Rouen during mass was a local man, who was being monitored by electronic tag after being jailed for trying to join fanatics in Syria.

This afternoon it emerged that the murdered clergyman was deputising while the parish priest was on holiday. French authorities say they have arrested a third man in connection with the attack.

It comes as it emerged that the building was one of a number of Catholic churches on a terrorist ‘hit list’ found on a suspected ISIS extremist last April.

There are also reports that one of the attackers was a local resident who was under electronic tag surveillance having been jailed in France for trying to travel to Syria in 2015. His bail terms allowed him to be unsupervised between 8.30am and 12.30pm – the attack happened between 9am and 11am.

Istanbul Ataturk Airport Terrorists Behaved Like a Special Forces Unit

Istanbul Ataturk Airport Terrorists

A three-part attack beginning with a diversion is a new level of sophistication. That should scare the U.S. and Europe.

Three months after attacking Brussels airport, terrorists have shown in the attack on Istanbul’s international airport an alarming ability to stay one move ahead of the defenses put in place to stop them—an agility in planning that could present a new and serious threat to airports in the U.S.

Most experts agree that the Istanbul atrocity has the hallmarks of ISIS. Even then, the sophistication of how the attack was carried out has surprised them.

It was carried out in a way that suggests the kind of advance intelligence, careful study of a target, and cool execution that would normally be practised by Western special forces.

ISIS ‘kill list’ targets Palm Beach, Treasure Coast residents: Ex-FBI agent

Iraq ISIS Abu Wahe 2941936b

BY KATHLEEN WALTER WEDNESDAY, JUNE 8TH 2016

WEST PALM BEACH (CBS12) — A pro-Isis group has released a hit list with the names of more than 8,000 people mostly Americans.

More than 600-people live in Florida, and one security expert believes that many of those targeted live in Palm Beach County and on the Treasure Coast.

The “United Cyber Caliphate” that hacked U.S. Central Command, 54,000 Twitter accounts and threatened President Barack Obama is the same pro-Isis group that’s reportedly created a “kill list” with the names, addresses and emails of thousands of civilian Americans.

Reports of the list came to light online when Vocativ reported the list was shared via the encrypted app, Telegram, and called on supporters to kill.

Former FBI agent-turned lawyer Stuart Kaplan says the threat is especially alarming, because the people on this list are civilians who don’t have the security necessary to protect themselves.

Orlando nightclub terrorist worked for major DHS contractor that secures “90 percent of U.S. nuclear facilities.”

Omar Mateen, Terrorist Who Attacked Orlando Gay Club

BY Paul Sperry · | June 13, 2016

The Orlando nightclub terrorist who pledged allegiance to ISIS worked almost a decade for a major Department of Homeland Security contractor, raising alarms that ISIS sympathizers and agents have infiltrated the federal agency set up after 9/11 to combat terrorists.

Officials say Omar Mir Seddique Mateen, an Afghan-American who held two firearms licenses and a security officer license, was employed by the security firm G4S Secure Solutions USA Inc. since Sept. 10, 2007. The Jupiter, Fla.-based company merged with the Wackenhut Corp. after 9/11 and assumed federal contracts.

“G4S supports the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, Customs and Border Protection (CPB), with its operations at the U.S. Mexico border and with U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) to transport illegal immigrants in selected urban areas,” the company says in a brochure, titled “Providing Manpower Solutions for Government Services.”

The DHS contract with G4S is worth more than $234 million. The contract states that one of the “performance requirements” is helping identify “suspected terrorists” trying to enter the U.S.

The security contractor also provides security guards and other security services for “90 percent of U.S. nuclear facilities.”

G4S uses fortified buses to transport “hundreds of thousands of illegal immigrants” from city to city and from cities to the U.S.-Mexican border. But earlier this month, Judicial Watch revealed G4S has been quietly moving and releasing van loads of illegal aliens away from the border to interior American cities.
