Yankees Players Hold Baseball Clinic at Paterson’s Historic Hinchliffe Stadium

Paterson NJ, some New York Yankees were on hand at Paterson’s historic Hinchliffe Stadium on Wednesday holding a baseball clinic for some kids in the city. The event was part of the Yankees’ HOPE Week initiative. It coincided with the 76th anniversary of Paterson native Larry Doby breaking the American League color barrier.

They Are Playing Baseball Ball Again at Hinchliffe Stadium in Paterson

Paterson NJ, Hinchliffe Stadium is a historic sports venue located in Paterson, New Jersey, United States. It was named after John V. Hinchliffe, the city’s mayor at the time of its construction. The stadium was built in 1932 as a Works Progress Administration (WPA) project during the Great Depression.

Hinchliffe Stadium Begins to Take Shape

Paterson NJ, yes it is finally really happening,  in October 2019 the Paterson’s City Council approved an agreement with developers for a renovation that could save the historic landmark during an Oct. 1 meeting. The roughly $76-million project is expected to turn the stadium into a 7,800-seat athletic facility, with a 314-space parking garage, restaurant with museum exhibits dedicated to Negro League baseball, 75-unit apartment building for senior citizens and a 5,800-square-foot childcare facility. EDA still needs to authorize the $49.9 million state tax credits for the $76.7 million project.

The County of Passaic will honor Paterson Native Larry Doby , the first player to go directly from the Negro Leagues to Major League Baseball

Paterson NJ, The County of Passaic will honor Passaic County Hall of Famer Larry Doby throughout the month of July. In 2016, the Passaic County Board of County Commissioners passed a resolution declaring July 5th as Larry Doby Day. On July 5, 1947, Doby made his Major League debut for the Cleveland Indians becoming the first player to go directly from the Negro Leagues to Major League Baseball. In honor and memory of his accomplishments, the County of Passaic will offer baseball related programming throughout the month of July.
