Wharton NJ, after months of delays, detours, and traffic headaches, drivers and local businesses near I-80 in Wharton are finally getting a break. The New Jersey Department of Transportation (NJDOT) announced that two eastbound lanes of I-80 are expected to reopen Wednesday night, weather permitting. The reopening comes after extensive closures caused by multiple sinkholes, which began forming over the winter.

Morris County, NJ – Travelers on Interstate 80 in Rockaway Township faced yet another headache on May 12, as emergency drainage repairs forced the closure of two left eastbound lanes and the shoulder near Exit 37. While past disruptions have stemmed from multiple sinkholes, this latest issue is a result of a collapsed sewer basin, according to the New Jersey Department of Transportation (NJDOT).

Emergency Sinkhole Repairs Ongoing on Route 80 in Morris County

Wharton NJ, The sinkhole, caused by the collapse of an abandoned iron mineshaft, appeared on the shoulder of Route 80 early Thursday morning. NJDOT reports that the affected area was stabilized, and excavation work began Thursday night. However, progress may be delayed due to freezing rain in the weekend forecast.
