New Jersey Assembly and Senate Bills provide immunity from lawsuits to businesses that act in good faith and follow COVID19 safety protocols

CBD 2020

Ridgewood NJ,  Companion bills introduced today in the New Jersey Assembly and Senate that provide immunity to businesses that act in good faith and follow safety protocols during the state’s economic reopening will help ensure the survival of many small businesses. NFIB, an association representing thousands of small businesses across New Jersey, supports this legislation because innocent business owners who did all that was expected of them can lose their business due simply to the high cost of a legal defense.

July 29,2017
the staff of the Ridgewood blog

Ridgewood NJ, For the second year in a row, I am happy to report that the Ridgewood Chamber of Commerce has entered a team in CancerCare’s 30th Annual Walk/Run for Hope, which will be held on Sunday, September 24, 2017 at Bergen Community College. Shelley Kohen, of Creative Solutions, is our fearless leader!

What is the Walk/Run for Hope?
The Walk/Run for Hope provides participants and attendees with an opportunity to come together to celebrate survivors, remember loved ones and support people impacted by cancer. The event, which is celebrating its 30th year, is a USATF-NJ sanctioned and certified 5K and walk that raises funds for CancerCare’s free supportive services and programs for New Jersey patients, caregivers and loved ones affected by cancer.

In addition to the 5K, the event includes a children’s Fun Run (complete with medals for all participants) and activities for kids of all ages. Locally sponsored snacks and beverages are available for all participants and volunteers.

How can I help?
There are few ways to help make this event a success:

1. Join the team! In honor of our 30th anniversary, our goal is to get 30 teams each with 30 participants – and with your help, we know that we can do it!
· Visit: https://community.cancercare.org/rcg to register.
· Step by step instructions are attached to this email.
2. Purchase a tribute sign: This year, we are offering the opportunity to honor every life affected by cancer by dedicating a Tribute Sign to celebrate a survivor, remember a loved one or support someone touched by cancer. All signs will be posted along the Walk/Run for Hope course.
· To purchase a sign, visit: https://community.cancercare.org/paramus2017/tribute
3. Donate: Can’t join us on the 24th? Visit www.cancercare.org/walknj to make your tax deductible donation.

If you have any questions or want to learn more about CancerCare, our events or sponsorship opportunities at the Walk/Run for Hope, please reach out to me.

Ridgewood Chamber offers free Shakespeare at Van Neste Square Park

Memorial Park at Van Neste Square will be the scene this Sunday of a modern spin on William Shakespeare’s “Romeo & Juliet.” The production continues the annual tradition of free “Shakespeare in the Park” sponsored by the Ridgewood Chamber of Commerce.

The play’s full name is “Romeo & Juliet: Political Warfare,” which should give insight to what the modern spin is. The tragedy will explore the feud between the Montagues and Capulets, a prominent pair of warring families, while focusing on the way that such a conflict can be viewed in terms of today’s politics.

“What makes Shakespeare’s work so classic is that it can be adapted in many ways,” said Ryan Pifher, owner/director of Porch Light Productions, the company presenting the play. “This summer, we are taking ‘Romeo and Juliet’ and setting it during a modern political campaign where the Capulets and Montagues are both running for control. This backdrop seemed fitting as we are now seeing the beginnings of our own presidential race take place.”

THE RIDGEWOOD NEWS

Times have certainly changed since waves of Italian immigrants first arrived in New Jersey in the 19th century, but there are still Romans searching for the American Dream and some of them have landed in the village.

Claudia Rovegno and her husband, Roberto Santagati, arrived in Ridgewood two years ago with big ideas and a commitment to build a brighter future for their children, Caterina, 11, and Filippo, 14.

The affable couple hit the ground running and opened an online business, FromScratchRidgewood.com, almost immediately. They feature authentic Italian cooking that can be ordered online and they’ve experienced quite a bit of success building up a network of loyal customers. They have just opened a grocery/bistro, Italia Di Gusto Ridgewood, at 44 E. Ridgewood Ave., that includes seating for 25 people and sells imported Italian foods in addition to delicious home cooking. A grand opening celebration is planned for 5 p.m. on Saturday, June 6.

Ridgewood Chamber Spotlight: Yummy Tummy Meals

Bernice Dezelan’s three “guinea pigs” are her children — Anthony, 8, Sofia, 4, and Victoria, 20 months. They are the inspiration and main product testers for the delicious food her business, “Yummy Tummy Meals,” delivers locally to other nutrition conscious, busy families.

Dezelan, who has lived in Ridgewood for the past three years, does all of her cooking at night at local, FDA-licensed commercial kitchens, where she rents space. Currently the online menu offers food for babies, toddlers and children, but the creative cook is already thinking ahead to offering complete family meals in the future.

The business evolved from Dezelan’s passion to feed her children food that was fresh and organic. To offer other parents those same wholesome meals, she first shared her original recipes on her own food blog.

“I knew there was a need for parents to have access to fresh meals for babies and children that they would actually love eating,” she said. When the family moved to Ridgewood with two children and expecting a third, she knew it was the perfect time to start her dream baby food delivery company.
