>New Jersey Transit Alerts

Due to weather conditions, NJ TRANSIT tickets and passes will be cross-honored Wednesday February

Bus service will be restored systemwide at 7:00 a.m., subject to local detours due to weather.

Northeast Corridor and North Jersey Coast Line service is suspended in both directions due to Amtrak power problems.

Systemwide Cross-Honoring in Effect:  To give customers additional travel options during winter weather conditions, NJ TRANSIT is offering full systemwide cross-honoring until 11:59 p.m. Wednesday, February 2, enabling customers to use their ticket or pass on an alternate travel mode-rail, bus or light rail.  For example, customers who normally take the bus from Rutherford to the Port Authority Bus Terminal may use their bus pass on the train from Rutherford to New York Penn Station.  Similarly, customers who normally take the bus between Atlantic City and Lindenwold may use the Atlantic City Rail Line instead at no additional charge.

Extended Station Hours for Passenger Comfort:
All NJ TRANSIT rail station buildings and waiting rooms will remain open extended hours, including evenings and overnight, throughout the storm

>Is the BOE Kidding about "ample parking in the Ridgewood High School lot"

>Is the BOE Kidding about “ample parking in the Ridgewood High School lot”

Ridgewood NJ- IS THE BOE KIDDING???…”There is ample parking in the Ridgewood High School lot to handle youth sporting events at the Stadium and Stevens fields, and youth sports parents and coaches will be advised to use this parking lot for drop off and parking. Youth sports groups in town, and visiting teams from other towns, will be instructed to inform their participants’ of the availability of parking at RHS (TENNIS COURTS) and at GRAYDON POOL and VETS FIELD.”

The BOE and RHS administrators were repeatedly told (during the planning stages and after the construction) that parking by the RHS tennis courts is NOT an appropriate solution for Stevens Field. Suggesting that people park at Graydon or Vets is even more preposterous.

The Graydon Pool lot is 2,100 feet (4/10ths of a mile) from Stevens Field. The Vets Field Lot is 1,580 feet (3/10ths of a mile) from Stevens Field. The RHS tennis court parking lot is 1100 feet (2/10ths of a mile) from Stevens Field. Even supporters of the field improvements agree! The BOE must create some parking facility at Stevens.

Spectators attending a game 3-4 times a season might not think this is inconvenient to walk these distances for a game. However, for 9-13 year old children and coaches carrying heavy bags and or/equipment 2 – 3 times a week (often at night), these are NOT viable suggestions. Options include using areas at the north or south end of the fields or along the right of way. The parking areas do not need to be paved and can be left as grass or gravel/dirt. There is no need for DEP approval or construction. Together, these areas could accommodate 80-90 cars. The BOE response to not properly address the parking issue is unacceptable.

>Marginalize local residents as one will, in a community they are what matters. Ridgewood’s residents most fundamentally ARE Ridgewood

>Marginalize local residents as one will, in a community they are what matters. Ridgewood’s residents most fundamentally ARE Ridgewood

Ridgewood NJ- Ridgewood is a community. Valley hospital is a member of that community, in it’s own right. But nonetheless Ridgewood is, first and foremost, a wonderful and well established residential community with associated zoning requirements meant to protect the quality and character of it’s neighborhoods. It is a “village” that is friendly to commerce, but not a commercial or industrial site.

Whoever wrote “soccer moms” was dismissing the value of Ridgewood community residents off-handishly, as members of a category to be treated as irrelevant or silly in some way. Whether this Valley supporter represents Valley or not, his/her attitude lies at the very heart of the issue of what is wrong with the Valley’s behavior.

I see it like this. A business wants to expand in Ridgewood and in a way that many surrounding community members find disagreeable. This business is not interested in that opposition but, rather, sees those community interests as an obstacle to be defeated. It sees that community itself as an obstacle, and is behaving accordingly.

Marginalize local residents as one will, in a community they are what matters. Ridgewood’s residents most fundamentally ARE Ridgewood.

>Oil over $100 as Egypt protests intensify

>Oil over $100 as Egypt protests intensify

By Javier Blas in Geneva, Roula Khalaf in London, Michael Peel in Cairo and agencies
Published: January 31 2011 19:12 | Last updated: January 31 2011 23:27

Oil prices broke through the $100 a barrel level for the first time in more than two years, amid market fears that Egypt’s turmoil will hit oil flows.

Although both the Suez Canal and a pipeline linking the Red Sea with the Mediterranean continue to operate, the popular uprising to unseat Hosni Mubarak, Egypt’s president, has brought much of the rest of the economy to a halt.

>Nearly 11 Percent of US Houses Empty

>Nearly 11 Percent of US Houses Empty

Monday, 31 Jan 2011
By: Diana Olick
CNBC Real Estate Reporter

I usually find the quarterly homeowner vacancy and homeownership report from Census pretty lackluster, but the latest one released this morning was anything but.

America’s home ownership rate, after holding steady for a while, took a pretty big plunge in Q4, from 66.9 percent to 66.5 percent. That’s down from the 2004 peak of 69.2 percent and the lowest level since 1998.

Homeownership is falling at an alarming pace, despite the fact that home prices have fallen, affordability is much improved and inventories of new and existing homes are still running quite high.

Bargains abound, but few are interested or eligible to take advantage.
