Democrat Councilman Admits Role in Multi-Million Dollar Mob Gambling Ring

Prospect Park NJ, A New Jersey elected official has confessed to his involvement in an extensive illegal gambling network run by organized crime. Democrat Prospect Park Councilman Anand Shah, 44, formally entered a guilty plea following a sweeping state investigation into operations linked directly to the Lucchese crime family.
Shah was among dozens of individuals indicted since the initial law enforcement crackdown in 2025.
The Scheme and the Money Trail
According to the New Jersey Attorney General’s Office, Shah played multiple roles within the illicit syndicate, functioning as a sportsbook agent, poker manager, and host for secret illegal poker clubs. In these roles, he skimmed a percentage of the wagers placed during games hosted by the mob-tied ring.
Financial records compiled by investigators reveal that between January 2017 and August 2023, Shah’s illicit activities generated $900,084 in proceeds.
Legal Fallout and Forfeiture of Office
Shah pled guilty to several major charges:

Official misconduct
Under the terms of the negotiated plea agreement, state prosecutors plan to recommend a 10-year sentence in state prison.
Beyond serving prison time, Shah is required to immediately forfeit his seat on the Prospect Park borough council and faces a permanent ban from holding any public office or government position in New Jersey.
Shah is scheduled for formal sentencing on December 4.
