At its June 19, 2006, meeting, the Board named C. Russell Titus the interim superintendent of schools for the 2006-2007 school year. He replaces John R. Porter Jr., who is leaving to become superintendent of schools in the Franklin-McKinley school district in San Jose CA. Porter is leaving June 30. The Board intends to spend the next year conducting a nationwide search for Porter’s replacement.Until his retirement from Ridgewood Public Schools in June 2005, Titus was most recently assistant superintendent of schools. He also spent 20 years as principal of Somerville School. He briefly retired from that position but returned to the district to become interim assistant superintendent when former superintendent Fred Stokley retired. Not as Much Praise as you are lead to believe…

>Because of storm water regulations recently enacted by the NJ Department of
Environmental Protection, the Village is no longer able to legally dispose
of grass clippings at the Village of Ridgewood owned and operated compost
facility on Lakeview Drive.

The Village will still continue to collect grass clippings from homeowners
on a weekly basis at curbside. However, disposing of these clippings
outside of the Village will cost taxpayers $80k in dumping fees for calendar
year 2006. Additional expense above and beyond the $80k will be incurred

for employee travel time to and from the dumping location, and diesel fuel.
Should the Village encourage mulching by discontinuing the pickup of grass
clipping, thus saving $80k? Or perhaps charge those who want their
clippings picked up curbside instead of burdening the taxpayer base as a
whole?

What do you think? Please sound off with a comment. Thanks.

Anti Goverment Grumblings ,Who me?

>Anti Government Grumblings, Who me…

As some of you know the Ridgewood blog has made the Ridgewood News. In this piece the Ridgewood News has accused the blog of “anti government grumblings” . Well, if that means that some people in town are a little annoyed by the seeming lack of accountability of elected and appointed officials, then yes it is antigovernment it is. There was also an accusation made that people should stop complaining and get involved. Funny I don’t recall anyone asking me if II know who the posters are? I can assure you that many of the posters do attend meetings, run for office, work for the village or just pay taxes here. Many are old time residents that are getting a bit disturbed by the direction our Village has been going in the last dozen years or so. Many residents are starting to feel they are being made a fool of. Many think the town is run by a group of insiders that no longer has the Village’s best interests at heart. And finally and most importantly it’s about respect. Do you think the town is getting the respect it deserves? There was a time when Ridgewood had the best of everything and there was no town more admired than ours. If we did it everyone wanted to be like us .Yes that’s right everyone wanted to be like Ridgewood. We didn’t live in New Jersey we lived in Ridgewood. We had the best schools, the most active and interested residents, and the cleanest and safest streets. But alas I am not so sure that the same can still be said. Well as I have said before everyone is invited to participate by sending us your thoughts, comments or complaints. The blog is trying to give voice to local issues that often go unnoticed in out busy lives.
