Carousel Cakes has a long history of making fine desserts; we sell our cakes to more than 700 restaurants in the tri-state area. Local restaurants and gourmet grocers include Aldo & Gianni Ristorante in Montvale, Valentino’s of Park Ridge, the Clinton Inn Hotel in Tenafly. Manhattan customers include Zabar’s, the private Friars Club, EJ’s Luncheonette and the American Museum of Natural History.

Ridgewood, Englewood and Montclair are wonderful New Jersey towns, and we are so happy to be a part of these communities. We offer a full range of cupcakes for kids of all ages. We have mousse-filled cupcakes, baby cakes sold by the dozen and tons of flavors to choose from. Also, traditional frosted cupcakes and those piled high with crumbled cookies or candy. New signs to point shoppers to stores in Ridgewood

The village will soon install new destination signs at the main crossroads of the Central Business District (CBD), the next phase in the Ridgewood Chamber of Commerce’s effort to boost foot traffic and promote storefronts along the downtown’s side streets.

Nine metal placards, each bearing the name of participating Oak Street retailers, restaurants or other professional services, will be fixed at the northeast corner of the Oak and East Ridgewood Avenue intersection. Chamber members have focused this round of their project on the Oak Street corridor, but they anticipate extending the sign program to other roads, including Chestnut and Broad streets.

The project has taken nearly one year to implement. Officials at the Chamber of Commerce pitched their idea to the Ridgewood Council last March, when business owners Tom Hillmann and Paul Vagianos described the signs as a way to “clean up” the appearance of East Ridgewood Avenue, the main thoroughfare of the downtown area, and direct pedestrians to establishments on the secondary roadways.

Restaurant review: Memoire in Ridgewood

Friday, January 24, 2014
By ELISA UNG
RESTAURANT REVIEWER

No lie: When I heard that Giocomo Mistretta was in the kitchen of the new Ridgewood restaurant Mémoire, I had to restrain myself from charging in immediately in search of one dish: The salmon that Mistretta served at the former Napa Valley Grille at the Westfield Garden State Plaza set a high bar, one that I was crossing my fingers that Mémoire could match.

It did. Grilled crisp and flaky, Mémoire’s salmon is topped with cranberry ginger honey butter and served over a subtle mix of Israeli couscous and roasted vegetables ($24). It’s like an old friend, and sums up the menu: contemporary American with an eclectic array of influences, but ultimately more familiar than edgy.

North Jersey coffee shops brew new ideas to compete with larger chains

North Jersey coffee shops brew new ideas to compete with larger chains
MONDAY, JANUARY 20, 2014    LAST UPDATED: MONDAY JANUARY 20, 2014, 3:15 PM

STAFF WRITER
THE RECORD

Local coffee shops can’t compete with the big chains on visibility, marketing and brand-name recognition. But what really counts, they say, is what’s in the cup, and that’s where they think they can hold their own.

North Jersey coffee shop owners are spending more time — and money — focusing on getting better coffee beans, and sometimes roasting their own. And they’re also reaching out into their communities, building relationships, name recognition and their own brand of loyalty with their best customers.

It isn’t easy, in a saturated market where the big name retailers like Starbucks, with 47 stores in Bergen and Passaic counties, and Dunkin’ Donuts, with 50, seem to be on every corner. They’re competing for an ever-increasing number of people seeking their daily caffeine fix. The National Coffee Association’s latest survey last September showed that 83 percent of adults in the United States drank coffee in one form or another, up 5 percent from 2012, and one third of consumers drink a “gourmet” coffee each day — or something other than your average blend.

That’s not news to Terry Jung, co-owner of Ridgewood Coffee Co.

Mark Levin: Reader says not so fast Mark

mark_levin_bookends_theridgewodblog.net

https://queenofliberty.com/2013/08/14/mark-levin-rolls-out-his-new-book/

Mark Levin: Reader says not so fast Mark

Mark was shown where he made a mistake in stating in a footnote that delegates from Vermont belatedly attended the constitutional convention in Philadelphia in 1787. In reality, Vermont was not even a state until 1791. Before that it was a disputed territory between New Hampshire and New York. So Vermonters were not asked to nor were they qualified to attend the Philadelphia convention. He gave his challenger no credit for reading his book carefully and bringing this non-trivial mistake to his attention. He then refused to sign the book on the page where the footnote appeared and showed distinct signs of impatience and annoyance when he opened the front of the book and began to sign it.

At this point, Mark was challenged about Cruz’s eligiblity. But the challenge did not happen as Mark said it did. The challenger asked this: “Under what possible definition of the term natural-born Citizen does your friend Ted Cruz qualify to be president?” At this same time the challenger placed an annotated copy of an earlier TheRidgewoodBlog posting repeating CNN’s recent article questioning Cruz’s eligibility, and was pointing at the document. After cursing at the challenger , Mark replied: “I never said he was a natural-born Citizen.”, upon which his challenger said: “But you must be a natural-born Citizen to be President!”. Mark then said: “No you don’t!”, and the challenger said “Yes, you do. Read the Constitution.” Levin was showing no signs of changing his tune. The challenger then turned around and left the booksigning. There was no time during any of this dialogue for Mark to ruminate on the challenger’s motivations or talk about Canada or Cruz’s mother or anything like what he said on his Radio program

Readers asks Why is Heather A. Mailander capable enough to fill in but not to actually be appointed to the position

Readers asks Why is Heather A. Mailander capable enough to fill in but not to actually be appointed to the position

Why is she capable enough to fill in but not to actually be appointed to the position. Another woman running a dept and not being recognized. She is better than Gabbert and Ten Hoeve

Heather Mailander would make an excellent choice for Village Manager. She is highly capable, has a tremendous work ethic, she knows the town and she well respected and liked by both Village employees and residents. Most importantly she has good common sense………..which is in short supply in Village Hall.

The Legend of St. Valentine

Cupid

The Legend of St. Valentine

The history of Valentine’s Day–and the story of its patron saint–is shrouded in mystery. We do know that February has long been celebrated as a month of romance, and that St. Valentine’s Day, as we know it today, contains vestiges of both Christian and ancient Roman tradition. But who was Saint Valentine, and how did he become associated with this ancient rite?

The Catholic Church recognizes at least three different saints named Valentine or Valentinus, all of whom were martyred. One legend contends that Valentine was a priest who served during the third century in Rome. When Emperor Claudius II decided that single men made better soldiers than those with wives and families, he outlawed marriage for young men. Valentine, realizing the injustice of the decree, defied Claudius and continued to perform marriages for young lovers in secret. When Valentine’s actions were discovered, Claudius ordered that he be put to death.

Other stories suggest that Valentine may have been killed for attempting to help Christians escape harsh Roman prisons, where they were often beaten and tortured. According to one legend, an imprisoned Valentine actually sent the first “valentine” greeting himself after he fell in love with a young girl–possibly his jailor’s daughter–who visited him during his confinement. Before his death, it is alleged that he wrote her a letter signed “From your Valentine,” an expression that is still in use today. Although the truth behind the Valentine legends is murky, the stories all emphasize his appeal as a sympathetic, heroic and–most importantly–romantic figure. By the Middle Ages, perhaps thanks to this reputation, Valentine would become one of the most popular saints in England and France.
