SpaceX Starlink Cell Service in the Offering

Ridgewood NJ, SpaceX filed an application with the US FCC on December 6 for authorization to equip some of its Starlink satellites with direct-to-cellular hardware. The FCC recently authorized SpaceX to launch 7,500 second-generation Starlink satellites before the end of the decade. If the direct-to-cellular hardware is approved, Starlink will be able to provide voice, messaging, and basic web browsing capabilities to mobile devices. SpaceX plans to offer smartphone coverage as soon as 2024.

Apple iPhone 14 with Satellite Connectivity

Ridgewood NJ, Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo says that the iPhone 14 will have satellite hardware, but support for satellite communications depends on agreements between Apple and operators. Satellite connectivity will only be able to be used for emergency texting and voice services. Apple is most likely to partner with Globalstar for the feature. T-Mobile and SpaceX recently announced a plan to provide a satellite-to-cellular service in 2023.

Firefly Aerospace and Max Polyakov Want to Build Smaller Rockets than SpaceX

Max Polyakov is collaborating with the US to create rockets smaller than those that SpaceX has built. He has invested $150 million in the commercial rocket industry, making a name for himself. Polyakov’s commercial spaceflight company, Firefly Aerospace, runs an engine test site in Austin, Texas with offices in Cedar Park. His company is already in line for multi-million dollar contracts to launch satellites for NASA .

Firefly Investor Noosphere Ventures Eyes Satellite Manufacturing Sector
