SUPER SCIENCE SATURDAY IS FEBRUARY 27

Super Science Saturday 2016, the celebration of science and technology in our daily lives, returns for its twenty-seventh year on Saturday, February 27, from 9 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at Ridgewood High School, 627 East Ridgewood Avenue. Admission is free. Students are invited to sign up and exhibit at www.supersciencesaturday.org.

The three-session presenters’ workshop begins on Thursday, February 4 and continues on February 11 and 25, from 3:30-5:30 p.m. at Benjamin Franklin Middle School. The cost is $20. Click here for workshop details and registration information.

Ridgewood NJ, Find out first-hand why Super Science Saturday, the biggest science and technology exhibition in Northern New Jersey, has won a prestigious award from the New Jersey Inventors Hall of Fame.

Science professionals, parents, teachers and students are all welcome to play a role in making this award-winning event an even bigger success in 2016. Super Science Saturday welcomes new members for the all-volunteer Executive Committee that is planning the next exhibition, scheduled for February 27 at Ridgewood High School.

There also are a variety of other volunteer opportunities for those who are passionate about science and technology and want to be involved in a high-impact program like Super Science Saturday– from helping spread the word about this award-winning exhibition, coordinating with new adult and student presenters or just assisting on the day

The 28th annual Super Science Saturday is a particularly special event, as the New Jersey Inventors Hall of Fame (NJIOF) recently recognized Super Science Saturday for its

“Advancement of Invention & Process.” This award recognized Super Science Saturday for creating and sustaining this annual half-day exhibition, which showcases the marvels of science and technology for attendees of all ages.

NJIHOF honors inventors whose lifetime work has contributed significantly to the prosperity of New Jersey. Inaugural award winners include Albert Einstein and Thomas Edison. Over the years, NJIOF has recognized Nobel Laureates and prominent researchers in many fields, including those who have pioneered life-saving drugs, and contributed to advanced communications technology, astrophysics and NASA missions.

Super Science Saturday’s Executive Committee is proud to be recognized along with such distinguished award-winners.

Ridgewood NJ, Super Science Saturday, founded by former RPS science teacher Jim Wallace in 1988 and continued by RHS 2001 graduate MichaelAaron Flicker, received the New Jersey Inventors Hall of Fame Advancement of Invention & Process Award at a banquet held in Hoboken in October. The award was presented to Jim and Michael Aaron for creating and sustaining the “Super Science Saturday” extravaganza that exposes children to the marvels of science. The two honorees received the honor on behalf of the Super Science Saturday all-volunteer Executive Committee.

Super Science Saturday returns to Ridgewood

Super Science Saturday, the annual celebration of science and technology, will take place from 9 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 28 at Ridgewood High School. The event, now in its 27th year, is free and open to all members of the public.

Scientists from the Franklin Institute of Philadelphia will present one of the day’s featured shows, “Chemistry,” that demonstrates everything from substances that explode (safely) to chemical “detective work” performed by laboratory scientists. The half-hour show begins at 9:30 a.m. and is presented by former Ridgewood High School graduate Sarah Rowley.

The event also has interactive exhibits from dozens of professional and amateur scientists, including 3D printers, solar telescopes, drones, robotics, the environment, health and medicine, physics and the technology used by Ridgewood’s police, fire and EMT professionals.

The largest science extravaganza in northern New Jersey, this year’s Super Science Saturday will feature the incredible 25-foot egg drop challenge; the traditional great paper airplance contest and the live rocket launch, in addition to project presentations by students.

Super Science Saturday Comes to Ridgewood March 8

Crowd Source a World’s Record Idea, See a 3-D Printer and more
At Super Science Saturday on March 8

Ridgewood NJ, Super Science Saturday 2014 returns to Ridgewood on March 8 and is inviting visitors to crowd-source ideas for a world’s record that could be set at next year’s event. This is just one of the many exciting activities at Super Science Saturday, which returns for its 26th year on Saturday, March 8, from 9 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at Ridgewood High School, 627 East Ridgewood Avenue. Admission is free.

Visitors can select from a menu of world-record-setting ideas or submit a creative one of their own. The winning idea will be tested for feasibility of setting a world’s record at Super Science Saturday 2015.

Visitors to this year’s event also can see a 3-D printer at work, and meet special guests, such as America’s first scientist, “Benjamin Franklin,” and WABC-TV NY Meteorologist Amy Freeze.

The day includes a new favorite—a 26-foot egg drop contest—and ever-popular traditions, such as “The Great Paper Airplane Contest” and model rocket launches on the high school football field at 1:20 p.m.

Scientists from the famed Franklin Institute of Philadelphia will present the day’s featured shows—“How to Build a Storm: The Weather Show” at 9:30 a.m. Super Science Saturday also will have interactive exhibits from dozens of professional and amateur scientists, including solar telescopes, robotics, super-cold science, New Jersey’s special environment, health and medicine, chemistry, and the technology used by our police, fire and EMT professionals.

This event, the largest of its kind in Northern new Jersey, encourages students of all ages—from elementary through high school—to exhibit their experiments in the Hall of Science.  There is still room for students from any school district to sign up and exhibit at www.supersciencesaturday.org.

Super Science Saturday is underwritten for the sixth-consecutive year by The Valley Hospital, which provides state-of-the-art medical, emergency and preventive care in Northern New Jersey, and The Foundation, which supports innovative learning programs and enrichment activities for Ridgewood Public Schools.
