Ridgewood NJ, Areas throughout Philadelphia and New Jersey will see their air quality impacted by smoke from wildfires burning in Canada this weekend. The smoke is prompting several communities to issue air quality alerts. It is unhealthy to breathe and can be especially harmful to sensitive groups, including children, older adults, and people with lung diseases like asthma and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease.

Nova Scotia Wildfires Creating Unhealthy Air Quality in New Jersey

Ridgewood NJ, this week, areas throughout the Northeast, including parts of New Jersey, are being impacted by poor air quality.  Large uncontrolled wildfires in Nova Scotia have produced a significant smoke plume that is moving toward our area, likely to cause elevated unhealthy fine particles readings registering on the Air Quality Index. The air quality is predicted to be unhealthy for sensitive groups,  including children, older adults, and people with lung diseases like asthma and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease.

Ozone Air Pollution in New Jersey: Nearly All of State in Metro Areas Ranking Among Worst 25 in Nation

Ridgewood NJ , The American Lung Association’s 2020 “State of the Air” report found that air quality in New Jersey generally improved, even as the state’s major metro areas continued to rank among the worst in the nation for ozone smog. Fine particle pollution levels usually continued their steady improvement, although rankings for the year-round levels of this pollutant remain poor.

Ready to Quit Smoking? “Quit, Don’t Switch” to E-Cigarettes

The American Lung Association reminds the public that e-cigarettes, or vaping, is not quitting smoking

Ridgewood NJ, Along with hitting the gym more often and starting a diet, quitting smoking tops many New Year’s resolution lists. There are 873,600 smokers in New Jersey and more than 63% tried to quit last year. New ads from e-cigarettes companies would have those smokers falsely believe that switching to vaping is quitting smoking. The American Lung Association is reminding Pennsylvanians that the Food and Drug Administration has not found any e-cigarette to be safe and effective in helping smokers quit.
