Twp. of Washington NJ, the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) National Electric Vehicle Infrastructure (NEVI) Formula Program funds the deployment of Electric Vehicle (EV) fast chargers along designated electric vehicle corridors to establish an interconnected EV charging network across each state and the nation. It is the NJDOT’s intent to strategically deploy EV charging stations in New Jersey and to establish an interconnected network to facilitate data collection, access, and reliability. Funding is available for up to 80% of eligible project costs, including:
- The acquisition, installation, and network connection of EV charging stations to facilitate data collection, access, and reliability
- Proper operation and maintenance of EV charging stations
- Long-term EV charging station data sharing
EV charging stations must be non-proprietary, allow for open-access payment methods, be publicly available, and be located along New Jersey’s AFCs. All applicable Federal statutory and regulatory requirements apply, in accordance with the NEVI Standards and Requirements, a Rule by the Federal Highway Administration published in the Federal Register on 02/28/2023, Federal Register NEVI Standards and Requirements. NJDOT’s Electric Vehicle Infrastructure Deployment Program will include requirements specific to New Jersey and to the Department’s needs.
It is the Department’s intent to issue a construction advertisement for the first phase of New Jersey’s NEVI EV chargers during Fall 2023. This work shall consist of the installation, operation, and maintenance of Direct Current Fast Chargers (DCFCs) in accordance with the NEVI Formula Program and the New Jersey NEVI Plan. NJ Electrical licensing is required to perform any electrical work.
The New Jersey Department of Transportation (NJDOT) is committed to developing transportation improvements that best balance transportation needs, the environment, community concerns, and costs. NJDOT is holding a Virtual Public Information Center (PIC) to provide residents, officials, and businesses with information on the Electric Vehicle Infrastructure Deployment Program. New Jersey has designated the Interstate Highways as Alternative Fuel Corridors (AFCs), to be equipped with electric vehicle fast chargers no more than 50 miles apart, and within 1 mile of an exit. You are encouraged to actively participate by providing comments via the website comment section, email, or mail.
