Ho hum. A very poor turnout; only 10 people in the audience and most of them were from the League of Women Voters.

As expected, “What should be done with Pease Library?” was one of the 3 prepared League of Women Voters questions. The League really needs to let that issue go and move on to something else. The same question was presented to candidates in 2004; I’ve heard quite enough about Pease Library, thank you.

Also as expected, Mancuso and Pfund both read their answers from carefully prepared scripts; very few candid comments from either.

No startling revelations. One member of the public challenged Papietro on his plan to turn Ridgewood Avenue into a one-way street heading westbound. Other questions from the floor focused on parking and leadership in the public safety departments.

Friction between candidates was non-existent.

I give this Candidates’ Night a 1 star rating out of 5.

  2. >What’s there to debate? With a little known challenger and no real competition the only thing one has to worry about is yawning to death…

  3. >the amount of comments or lack of comments speaks for it self

  4. >i guess they couldnt compete with a yankee game

  5. >Yes, it was boring, but thats cause not many people showed up to ask any of the hard questions!

Sorry if you’ve “heard quite enough about the Pease Library, thank you” but if the League didn’t keep after the council about this building, our library board would have had it rented to a realtor, architect or bank by now, and every cent from the rent would go directly to the main library; out of our pockets. The Pease building belongs to us, the taxpayers. Remember, the library board in 1999, with the council, stole that building while we weren’t looking. The library board gets the $40,000 rent each year from the 911 Emergency services, which rents the basement of the Pease building; what do they do with this rent, which is supposed to be used, at least partly, to maintain the Pease building? They just slip it into their budget and you see we are left to pay for the costs of the building, you and me; we just spent hundreds of thousands of dollars for a new roof; and more has to be done. Sorry to bore you, but we will keep mentioning the Pease until everyone does the right thing. If we didn’t keep the Pease in the minds of our elected officials, the library on Maple would be digging for a new addition by now. Stolen property should be returned, don’t you think?

  6. >Apology accepted, but you’re still boring me. Please stop.
