No Sandy aid for summer home owners
Peter Tupper measures his summer in bags of corn sold.
“Normally we do 150 bags a week,” said Tupper, who own Charlie’s Farm Market in Normandy Beach. “This year, we’re doing 25.” (Di Ionno/Star-Ledger)

Didn’t the summer homeowners pay for insurance?
A lot of homeowners didn’t carry flood insurance so regular homeowners coverage doesn’t pay. Fema doesn’t cover vacation homes so a lot of homeowners are on there own!
Summer homeowners pay the same property taxes as year-round homeowners.
What does that have to do with insurance?
Taxes do not cover flood insurance. I pay for flood insurance on a vac home that has never flooded that’s why it is called insurance.
Should I stop paying because I think that my taxes should cover the expense?
all taxpayers should be treated equally. Summer homeowners subsidize the year rounders without using the services such as the schools.
We all make decisions.
#6 what does property tax have to to do with flood insurance?
#6 all taxpayers who have flood insurance on their 2nd homes are treated equally. All taxpayers who do not have flood insurance on their 2nd homes are treated equally.
Looks like we’re good to go here.
#9 the article is about 2nd homeowners who dont get the federal aid. They DO pay the same property taxes as those who call it a primary residence. Its not fair. The money from the seasonal homeowners keeps the economy at the shore alive. But I dont own a home there so it doesnt affect me. And i don’t visit there either. Looks like we’re good to go here.
#10. Local municipal taxes are not in any way linked to FEMA eligibility. If there were a MEMA, funded by municipal taxes, you would have a case. FEMA is funded by IRS revenue, which is actually REDUCED by deductions for municipal taxes and a mortgage on a second home. As such, there is absolutely NOTHING WRONG with the failure of FEMA to repair someone else’s vacation home with my 27% of income payable every Apr 15th. Insurance should be factored into the cost of a second home on the beach, if you can’t afford it, you don’t belong there.
Since this is the internet, I have learned that no amount of logic will change the way you see this. But yeah, we are good to go.
