Ridgewood NJ, The new & “normal” Village Council reviewed a proposed development plan for the former Schedler property on Wednesday night. Presentation of the plan to the Council was made by Village Engineer Christopher Rutishauser.
And, based upon comments made by several Council members during their lengthy post-presentation discussion of that plan, we are left with the distinct impression that they are not happy with the current plan at all.
In a nutshell, what it seems they would like instead is:
- A much larger football/lacrosse/soccer field
- A 90-foot baseball diamond
- Artificial turf
- Permanent lighting
Further public discussion of the “wish list” changes to the plan will be held during the Council’s scheduled February 1st Work Session.
Seems to us like the “normal” folks would like to transform what was planned to be a combination active & passive park into a major athletic complex.

Good
Let the games begin coach Winograd.
where are people going to park?
In the athletic parking garage that will be revealed next…………
The bleachers, concession stand, and parking garage will all be revealed soon. Just you wait and see.
You forgot the “It’s Greek to Me” annex…………………
I smell a “Greek to Me” food truck concession
With a wall in front of it
You win “Comment of the Year”
Future plans will call for the acquisition of several residential and commercial properties to permit additional athletic fields and associated parking to be built.
Experienced in : If you BUILD IT : They
___________
won’t Come Parking Structures

Remember Once Upon a Time, not too long ago, there was a select group with a “wish list”, pushing to turn Graydon Pool into an enclosed covered pool with cement bottom and build a “Water Park” Amusement Center to draw membership in flood zone.
What a $$ fiasco that would have been.
Neighbors feedback matters not just residents who showed up because they will need to live with this. Formal notification should be required just like any developer that needs to go to the planning board for a variance.
More trees knocked down, more people, kids, traffic, late night noise, espn lighting, parking overflow to the streets, greater safety issues as people wiz off the rt17 ramp. Last traffic study was 2015 time for an update.
They want to unwind historical classification by the State.
Hybrid access, zoom in and let your voice be heard don’t waste it on social media.
“Neighbors feedback matters not ”
Oh, it SURE does!
Otherwise they won’t know which malcontents’s houses to condemn.
Spot on. This is getting ridiculous… wait; it already is, and has been for some time. A great example of mismanagement and political games causing paralysis.
Dust dirt debris coming from route 17, we told you this is going to be the new money pit. When they start taking land from route 17 owners oh yes. Your people better go higher in attorney. It’s coming.
This has soccer written all over it.
The need for 60×90 baseball field was a ruse.
Isn’t Siobhan’s husband a soccer fanatic? And Ramon is a football kind of guy.
Looks great!
The pic is confusing…is it an artist’s rendering..or some sports crazed town in Florida…?
Who is responsible for all of this maintenance .
I watched the meeting last night and it is quite apparent that Councilwoman Winograd would consider going head to head with the State of NJ in order to remove the historic status from the property. How much are we going to spend in legal fees to accomplish this? What a waste of money. And wasn’t the property deemed historic in nature because revolutionary war artifacts were found buried there?
All of Ridgewood could be deemed historic. The property was / is a POS and has been for decades. If they build a park it will still be a POS park on rt17. We all would be better off letting a commercial developer build something on Rt17 that will pay taxes.
Fun fact, you don’t have to be the owner of a property to submit it for inclusion to the National Register of Historic Places…
Yes, but 42k or some similar sum was saved on moving elections. I don’t think anyone on the council can do math.
penny wise and pound foolish
People said during meeting’s public comment portion how enamored they were about new fields in Glen Rock and Wyckoff. So this is all about keeping up with the Jones’?
Ridgewood cant compete w GlennRock or Wyckoff on fields. Every field in Ridgewood is crap because the town is god awful at maintaining and are in a constant struggle w sport orgs, the RBSA and RHS on who will do the work, who will pay, etc. So lets not add more fields that won’t be maintained.
The soccer field at BFMS looks like something out of Sarajevo circa 1994. Coach Brown was asked if he wanted turf on the infield and he wisely said ‘no. True story, morning glory.
You forgot “built in a flood zone”
Spend, spend/spend.
Siobhan, flipping her hair, flexing her fingertips, and giving Lorraine a gold star (begrudgingly).
OK can someone give us a figure on how much we invested in this property already. And what is this phase going to cost us, and what’s after this phase?
The majority of athletic “careers” don’t continue after high school. Investing in academics makes more sense and would benefit all students.
The nu.ts are now in power. They can turn and twist this messy town anyway they want. People wanted change, they will get much more than that. Once upon a time a cr@ppy politican said “elections have consequences”. Rightly so.
BTW, my stomach turns when I see the mayor trying to be mayoral. This cook is in the wrong kitchen.
Plastic fake grass causes cancer and many other problems. Do not do this to your children.
Where are the facilities for martial arts, dance, and orchestra? Inclusionary???
Put healthbarn there! It will
Pay rent and cover some of the costs. Not it costs much rd than it pays
lots of people looking for “kick-backs” and looking to get rich off of the Schedler property
Can’t wait to see everybody fight about whatever ends up going in the old K Mart / Stop and Shop lot on Linwood and Rt17.
You don’t realize that strip mall is in Paramus, correct? No one from Ridgewood fighting about the huge CVS and 7-11 going in at Paramus Road and E. Ridgewood Ave., Paramus, the gateway to Ridgewood.
