Paramus NJ, a traffic stop on Route 17 in Paramus led to the arrest of a North Carolina woman early Tuesday morning after police discovered a loaded firearm in her vehicle.
Shenita J. King, 38, of Rocky Mount, N.C., was taken into custody and charged with multiple weapons and motor vehicle offenses, according to Paramus police.
Around 2:20 a.m., Officer Cesar Hurtado pulled over a 2001 Chevrolet Tahoe near the Garden State Parkway entrance for a traffic violation. Upon investigation, it was found that the vehicle’s registration belonged to an individual whose driving privileges had been revoked. King, the driver, informed the officer that the vehicle wasn’t hers, but police discovered her own license had been suspended as well.
During the stop, backup officer Michael Mordaga searched the vehicle and found a black purse in the back seat. Inside, they discovered a gray Jimenez Arms “JA Nine” 9mm handgun loaded with 12 full metal jacket bullets, according to the police report.
King was subsequently charged with second-degree unlawful possession of a firearm, possession of a large capacity magazine, and various motor vehicle violations, including a rear stoplight infraction.
After being processed through the Bureau of Criminal Identification (BCI), King was transported to Bergen County Jail, where she awaits a future court appearance.
