Hackensack NJ, Officials reported an unfortunate incident in Hackensack where a home, no longer equipped with an oil tank, received an unintended delivery of heating oil into its basement on Monday.
According to Captain Peter Rocco, PIO of the Hackensack Fire Department, the incident occurred when an oil tank was removed from the property, but the fill pipe was mistakenly left intact.
The residence, part of an automatic oil delivery program, experienced the unintended pumping of oil into its basement on Maple Hill Drive.
Captain Rocco mentioned that the precise volume of the oil is currently unknown. In response to the incident, the Bergen County Hazardous Materials Response Unit and a professional cleanup contractor were dispatched to assess the spill’s extent and manage the cleanup process.
Rocco emphasized that every possible measure is being taken to prevent the further spread of the oil and to minimize its environmental impact.

The tank was removed by a couple of Day Laborers and a contractor driving a pickup on a Saturday.
