Oradell NJ, there have been a few reports to the Oradell Police Department involving Juveniles and Snapchat. Juveniles are receiving “friend requests” on Snapchat from unknown people. The Juveniles have accepted the friend requests and started communicating with them. In a few instances, it has been reported that the unknown actors have gained a rapport with the Juveniles and convinced them to send explicit photos. The actor then screenshots the photo and demands money. In the reported instances the juveniles have a lot of personal information listed on their snapchat such as their other social media accounts (friends lists) and locations (their address).

We must remind you to check your children’s social media accounts. Explain the dangers associated with accepting friend requests from unknown people. Explain to them that sending out even one photo, could ruin their futures. Once these photos are out there, they’re out there.
We have been working with school officials in an attempt to spread the word about internet safety, but it must be reenforced at home. Even if you think your children would never make these decisions, approach them about it.
Advise your children:
Do NOT accept friend requests from unknown people. If they have, remove them and block them.
Hide your location- this shows snapchat “friends” where your child is and its fairly accurate.
Do NOT send explicit photos.
