IMPORTANT NOTICE CONCERNING LEAF REMOVAL – REVISED SCHEDULE

As you may have heard In our continuing efforts to improve services, a new leaf removal program will begin with the upcoming leaf season. The preponderant portion of Area B will be outsourced to a private contractor for the removal of leaves. This change is being implemented so that our resources can be better utilized by providing more manpower and extending collection times in all areas to achieve the services that Ridgewood residents deserve.

Residents in Area B will remain the same with the exception of the following streets which will now be considered “Area D” for leaf season only.

N. Monroe St. (house #108 to #412)

Valley View Ave.

Elm Court

Wastena Terr.

Beechwood Road

Unadilla Rd.

Palmer Court

Kemah Rd.

Woodland Ave. (house #116 – #223)

Carlton Terr.

Sheridan Terr.

Windsor Terr.

NEW dates for collection are as follows:

Area A: Oct. 20 – 23, Nov. 6 – 13, Dec. 1-5

Area B: Oct. 22 – 28, Nov. 6 – 12, Nov. 24 – 28, Dec. 11 – 17

Area C: Oct. 24 – 29, Nov. 14 – 19, Dec. 8 – 12

Area D: Oct. 30 – Nov. 5, Nov. 20 – 26, Dec. 15 – 19

Leaves must be placed directly in the street no more than 7 days prior to your scheduled pick up date. Please have your leaves in the street on the first day scheduled for collection. No brush will be collected during leaf season. You may continue to bring leaves as well as brush to the Recycling Center. The hours of operation are Monday through Saturday, 8:00 AM to 3:00 PM. Leaves can also be placed in paper biodegradable bags. Bags are available at the Recycling Center on a first come, first serve basis. When using bags please place them on the curb area and they will be collected separately. As weather is a key component to this operation if changes become necessary it will be posted on the Village of Ridgewood website. In addition you are encouraged to sign up for e-mail notifications via the Village website. As a reminder, please use caution when our leaf removal crews are on your block. When possible please take an alternate route to ensure the safety of all. Should you have any questions, please call the Street Division (201) 670-5585.

Our new motto is – “Leave” no leaf behind!

Thank you for your continued cooperation.

  1. Thanks for the schedule it is helpful.

No big problem on my Robert St. Local winds blow East to West and clear my Street and Lawn nicely…… so far.

Good luck with the improved equipment. Hope it doesn’t snow before all the leaves fall. Last year was a big problem. Stay safe all.

  2. I don’t know, I kind of like the look of snow and leaves mashed together.

  3. Lets ticket and tow the cars that remain on the street day and night so that the leaf removal crews can do their jobs.

  4. Folks: mow them in. I’ve done it for a couple years now and my lawn loves it. You don’t need to water as often in the summer because there’s a layer of fine mulch at ground level.

The only leaves I put out to the street are those from my driveway and courtyard.

No I am not a village plant.

Mowing them in is really good for your lawn. Good move. However, the reality of suburban behavior is that very few people will do this. Also, Ridgewood’s streets are almost all tree-lined, so that alone, even before you include all the stuff that falls in the front and rear yards, is enough to create quite a large volume of downed leaves that need to be cleared.

This is a good move by the Village having an outsource company do this. I hope there’s more of this outsourcing of services to come. I see this as a small step towards making continued reductions in Village maintenace staff with their lifetimes of health and pension benefits.

  6. Mulch, mulch, mulch. That is the answer.

  7. With the volume of leaves that fall on my property, if I mulched all of them, there would not be “a fine layer of mulch” at ground level – there would be a thick layer of mulch covering my lawn and killing my grass.

Believe me – I tried this with my mulching lawn mower (out of laziness – ha), I had to go over the property 3 times and then it was still not completely cleared and required some raking – which btw was more of a pain.

I can only “mow them in” when the very first few leaves fall.
Once they start to fall in earnest – even if I mowed every day – mulching them is unworkable since too many leaves fall too quickly.

  8. Believe it when i see it, the idea of ticketing cars in this town is a joke unless you call and complain it is not going to happen.

  9. Well #7, the mulching compacts them greatly, so you could use a mulching mower and collect them into the mower bag – it would be a much more dense pile going out to the street instead of a mountain.

Why? Glen Rock has no problem ticketing overnight parkers.

  11. Where is the leadership Dom.

  12. I like to know whose motto is it?

  13. What a catchy phrase. Must have come from White Horse.

  14. One pickup for the entire month of November is inadequate. This schedule is no different from any other years so the results will also be no different, which is to say, terrible. Also, trucks should not be picking up leaves on the same day as recycling or trash days, and I don’t see any efforts to take this into account either. And how has the outsourcing of leaf removal services for the west side improved resources in my area? The schedule is exactly the same as prior years. 3 crummy pickups. Thanks for the motto though. Nice touch.

why don’t the police drive ahead of the leaf cleaning crew and ticket and two all cars parked illegally ? Village co-ordination and all that…

  17. #10 we do not live in Glen ROCK the last time i looked.

  18. You’re right, Glenrock had their streets sparkling last fall and winter. The minute you reached Ridgewood the mess began

  19. How about “Change You Can Believe” and other lies.

  20. I get a lot of leaves too: I’ve got huge Maples and bigger Oaks, and a couple Ash trees. It’s not a one time deal. I’ll mow them in 3-4 times before it’s overwith. Every couple weeks.
