Our thoughts on the proposed Ridgewood “Open Space Tax Levy” increase

Ridgewood NJ, we remind voters that taxpayer funded purchases of “open space” ARE NOT AND SHOULD NOT be limited to properties intended for use as athletic fields.

The Village’s Open Space Committee is charged with seeking properties that are consistent with the following municipal needs also:

  • Facilitating historic preservation
  • Flood control/mitigation
  • Buffer
So, those voters who intend to vote “yes” with the expectation that every dollar collected will be used exclusively for purposes of increasing the number of athletic fields need to take note of the above.

  1. Agreed, Ridgewood needs more of all kinds of open Space! It’s also a great way to combat the constant building by developers.

  2. I recall as a kid. They wanted to build lighted fields etc concession stands off grove street. May me 1970 or 80. Then then made it Grove park. Protected by environmental thing. They should do the same
