Paramus NJ, Paramus Police report they have been experiencing numerous thefts from vehicles during the overnight hours in the neighborhoods East and West of Forest Ave between Midland Ave and Ridgewood Ave. Most of the incidents are occurring between 2:00 am hours and 6:30 am. In most of the reported incidents there is one subject observed wearing all dark clothing, with his/her face covered, carrying a satchel across his body and possibly black Nike sneakers with white accent. See attached pictures. For crimes in progress call 911. If you have information please call 201-262-3400.
Nice pic…should be easy to find that reprobate…
Crimes like this are probably “crimes of opportunity”. It’s doubtful that his/she is going to smash a window to steal something (too much noise/risk).
Simple preventative measures:
1. Lock your doors.
2. Don’t leave anything even remotely valuable in your car (not even a phone charger). And, if you do, then conceal it.
If he/she doesn’t see anything, then he/she moves on.
Defund the police…. go handle your own investigation…
Interesting times indeed….
It’s not “defund”, it’s “rethink“ the police budgets. Why do these municipalities in Bergen County of all places need SWAT teams, drones, Kevlar tactical gear, and MRAPs?
It literally makes no sense and sends the wrong message to the very communities these 73 different police forces in Bergen county are sworn to serve & protect. Do more serving and less over policing.
WRONG. The message is loud and clear from the Left, including news and social media. It’s DEFUND THE POLICE. This is straight out of the Antifa manifesto and people like you are trying to massage it to sound a little less scary.

Don’t let facts get in the way of your argument… The county sheriff and prosecutor maintain those units not 73 municipalities. I am all for merging of entities, but I doubt for 15k per year in taxes you want to wait the 15min to wait for an officer from Hackensack or be told that an officer in Paramus doesn’t care for your neighbors barking dog and wont be responding.
Just in case your head remains in the sand, Englewood just had a span of 3 shooting in 1 week, that 15 minutes away from you. Paterson is having its deadliest year in decades. There is good reason why you pay good money not to live there.
I don’t know what you mean by “Serving” Police are law enforcement and are tools used to enforce the laws your elected officials voted in favor of enacting. If over-policing means stop enforcing the law, then I assume you have the means to order others to do as you say. If not, then be prepared to handle yourself accordingly but be warned another may not see it your way and may take action to stop you or obstruct you.
You sir, are part of the problem. It’s “serve and protect” the taxpayers who pay your pension and salary. All you seem to understand is “enforce”.
Suggest you hand in your badge now and get out of the way.
Arrogance and excuses like yours are what’s preventing change in police departments.
Look at the logo of the Ridgewood Police… or any police. “To serve & protect”… it does not say “to enforce the laws your elected officials voted in favor of enacting“… pull your head out of the sand. God help us if you are a policeman or guiding our younger officers with your poisoned mind.
Lovin’ the mandated masks!
To the poster above who said “if over- policing means stop enforcing the law”…. you are clearly union, immediately jumping to an insane conclusion like that!!!
What if they police departments nationwide are told no steroids (to avoid so much ‘roid rage, with mandatory drug testing also checking for steroids), no drugs , no choke holds, no neck holds, no “no knock” warrants, no murders, no felony assault, no underage sexting (one of our former local officers ‘Guido Pete’ was arrested for this and possession of anabolic steroids), no brutality and far better training on sensitivity, and an oath to SERVE and protect the people who pay their excessive salaries and bloated benefits?
Before I moved to Ridgewood, my neighbor was the chief of police in the Tenafly area (not Tenafly though). He was beloved by the townspeople. He didn’t give people a hard time. He understood that his job was to PROTECT AND SERVE. Even after his retirement several years ago, people post about him on a Facebook page in his memory. I have so many wonderful memories of that man making our community a better place. May all police officers nationwide aspire to reach that level of adoration among citizens.

The Village was advised to hire “specials” to do that babysitting “extra duty” work for PSE&G, Verizon, NJ Transit and others as recently as 2012. We were told it would reduce the manipulation of overtime by senior officers. The police union (PBA Local 20) came up with every excuse under the sun what that was a bad idea. Guaranteed, when the union says its “bad” that means it’s good for taxpayers, and vice versa. They know nothing but abject greed.
