Paramus NJ, towns across the state are debating weather to allow the sale of recreational marijuana in their jurisdiction . The Ridgewood blog has chronicled some of the debate , but Bergen county’s retail capital Paramus just says NO.
Mayor Richard LaBarbiera has been an outspoken advocate for bringing recreational marijuana to Paramus, frequently making Facebook posts and discussing the issue at public meetings.
On June 16th , he posted :
Wait and see what???
Adjacent towns successfully implementing, generating revenue for their community and saving taxpayers $?
How much longer a vacancy must sit on our highway?
$$$$ we we could have used to reduce the increase in taxes this year and going forward? (But will ignore what $1m could have done while point fingers and assign blame for increase)
Is it any less a supposed gateway less than a 1/4 mile from our border? (PS if you don’t think it has been always readily availble to our young adults and saying no will have any imapct you are sadly mistaken. If anything you are sending them to illegal drug dealers which is the real gateway).
If 60% of Paramus voters voted in favor of legalizing and they want to purchase they should have to travel out of town and leave some of their $ for neighboring community?
I’m pretty logical guy. Can someone rationally explain why would say NO when 60% of those that voted on the refendum said YES and deny our taxpayers estimated $1m revenue annually while increasing taxes at same time?
Have always tried to run Paramus like a business and can not imagine if anyone on council were running a private biz they would say no to this type of opportunity.
Can not make this up
Paramus Council members, are taking a cautious approach and would rather wait and see how other communities are affected by these businesses, or in some cases, they are outright opposed to the idea of having recreational marijuana in the borough all together .
Currently, the borough code prohibits recreational marijuana dispensaries. Medical marijuana dispensaries are permitted only in the Highway Corridor Commercial zone along Route 4.
Drugs are killing thousands of young people in this country and the mayor, for the sake of tax money wants to put more lives at risk.
Ah yes, the demon weed. The devil’s lettuce. Jazz cabbage.
Year after year, accounting for(checks notes) exactly zero deaths.
*shudder*
just like the COVID scam.
But Paramus will approve a 7-11 and ginormous CVS on the corner of Paramus Road and Ridgewood Ave. Anything for $$$$.
Well, if there were any things we needed more than anything else, they’re a new 7-11 and CVS. We live in a 7-11 and CVS desert……………..
Sarcasm, I assume? There’s a brand new, huge CVS right on the Ridgewood border in Midland Park, one on the ridgewood border in Glen Rock, and Walgreens in the CBD. 7-11 on the Ridgewood border in Midland Park, two near/on Rt 17 near Ridgewood Ave in Paramus, etc . . . .

Can’t wait for the trash to find its way into the Duck Pond and Saddle River . . .
The trash is already finding its way to Glen Rock.
This morning there were tons of discarded plants, a black trash bag (full) and at least three empty paint cans in the main station lot in Glen Rock.
The streets have also been getting dirtier and dirtier.
I love weed ,
Hey, we may as well legalize it. No-one seems to want to work anymore while at the same time, expecting all kinds of free money from the Government.
We feel it’s a bad mistake because we are losing millions of dollars in tax revenue, all they have to do is be a block away in another town and make millions. I think it’s more than just a council there’s all this behind this bullshit beard
I can’t wait until we bring in the homeless and the tent cities and street defecation.
Progress.
Yeah wait until 711 is over there, let’s see what kind of shit that attracts. Especially at night, does anyone know is it gonna be a 24 seven like others. That’s gonna be interesting well at least the police have somewhere to go in your coffee, and hang out and Play surveillance.
